) Even less likely... the 2010 is dirty and is creating a golf ball dimple vortex over the car thus increasing the air flow and getting you better gas mileage...

At what speed are you driving?

As my post above I'm driving my C at 60MPH or less and one time got 84MPG on a 16.5 miles trip. Most of the time above 60MPG even at cold weather around 45 degrees. Just try on both cars at 60 MPH and let us know the result. And at 55 MPH I'm sure your C will be a winner.

I personally don't have experience yet driving the c but have lots of highway miles in a Gen3. But my guess is that you are right about 55 mph. I assume there is some crossover number where the Gen3 starts getting better mileage with all other variable being equal. My total out of the blue guess is probably about 56 or 57 mph. Faster than that and the Gen3 should get a little better fuel economy. Would love to hear other people's guesses.

55 is the theoretical point where you should roll your windows up and use air conditioning as well.

It depends upon the vehicle but I think it is in the 40's for most.

Aerodynamics and the smaller engine will do it. The latter especially makes it less friendly to cruise control. Maintaining the same speed regardless of the grade is not the optimum way to get the best milage. Even if you are not using cruise control, the C is lighter, hence less intertia, hence less friendly to gliding at high speeds. So if you are using your car purely for long non-congested highway trips, you will likely have better luck with the liftback.

during the warm season , I get within 1 or 2 miles/ gal of the advertised mileage...4.1L/100km......winter time 4,4 to 4.8 L/100km ........... that's on the highway at speeds of 55 to 60 mph

I got 52mpg this weekend (traveled 600 miles on the highway) going over 70mph most of the time and using cruse control. There were moderate to light hills. I think the temperature did it (low 70s).

Either way, its not written completely in stone. Just lightly impression.

If all the variables are the exact same every time then yes, it would be written in stone. The problem is, there are a ton of variables and there is no way to record every single one of them.

Right. Either way, we are all driving very fuel effiecent cars.

With both C and Liftback having log over 3+ million miles on fuelly. The C is at 50.3mpg and the LB at 48mpg for 2012.

The C is having an easy time hitting the EPA #. When hypermiled, the C has an even greater advantage.
