<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bruceha_2000\";p=\"51107)</div> Jon, you sure that wasn't a Chevy? [/b][/quote] Okay, Okay... I was still thinking about my Valiant!!!
Before I got the Prius, I had a Specialized mountain bike, and a bus pass. I have to say that the Prius is a lot more comfortable than both, and a much more pleasant way to travel when it's raining heavily (like it was this morning).
Hmm. First car I ever drove was my father's 87 (I think) Cadillac Cimmarron - if anyone remembers this car you can shudder all you want, it was fun to drive when it could be driven. First car I bought was a 93 Corolla, used car at 74K miles in 96 (previous owner was in a Sales job, had sold for a Saab apparently). Wonderful car, though could be high-maintenance at times. I got it up to 197K miles, it even had Toyota's official 100K milage sticker when I registered it /w the owners club. Finally got fustrated in Dec 02 and got the 02 'Classic' which I had been researching for some time thanks to John and others. So of course not five months later I end up in NYC looking at the 04, kicking myself for not waiting (not having a fold-down rear seat was a mistake for me in hindsight). Well, my dealer apparently was rather desperate for used Classic Prii, but they were usually not able to satisfy my requirement (I wanted to upgrade to the new Prius or they did not get my old one). Well someone had passed on an incoming 05 the day I walked in to inquire. Very happy now, not intending to look any further, like the Corolla this is perfect for what I do today and would like to do in future. Drives a bit like the Corolla too. --TSK
Currently own (until Thursday-granddaughter will claim) 96 Subaru legacy with 108,000 miles give or take a few which gets 28-30mpg; Toyota tacoma 2000 4WD auto with 70,000 miles gets 24-27mpg. Of course no one else drives like I do. My bumper stickers says YES I could drive slower! Thinking of adding one that says Gas Wasters Support Terrorists.
My Prius actually supplemented a '96 Volvo 850 sedan (manual, no less). My son needs it to commute to school, and that left me carless, thus the Prius. Barring any accidents, my daughter will inherit the Volvo when she finishes college, and I'll still have the Prius. BTW, unless I get 15 years out of a car, I don't feel I got my money's worth... my other cars have been: 1988 Ford Taurus Wagon (not great, blown tranny at 125K) 1983 Nissan Stanza Hatchback (Northeast saltbelt ate this otherwise OK car) 1970 Datsun 240Z (!) <-- Unbelievable car, but marriage and kids put the kybosh on this 2 seater after 15 years of blissful ownership.
Great topic! Since, I'm still waiting (ordered Tideland BC package in August), I guess I'll say these are the cars that I HOPE will precede my Prius: 1988 Honda Accord (sold at 187k miles) 1995 Ford Escort LX Wagon 1999 Honda Odyssey 2000 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro 2002 Ford F350 Turbodiesel The Honda was the most reliable car I ever had. How ironic that the next car (the Ford) required more service than all of the other cars COMBINED in the only 4 years we owned it. The current daily drivers are the Audi and the Odyssey (holding up well at 41k and 90k, respectively). The truck is for occasional farm use (1-2 days/week) for hauling 2-5 tons of livestock/feed weight over the Oregon mountain passes. After replacing the Audi with the Prius, my next purchase will be a license plate frame for the truck that says "My Other Car is a Prius". Anybody know where we can get one?
OK, in some resemblence of order: 1963 Buick Riviera (Earl Schibe painted it for $99) 1973 Opel GT 1972 Chevy Nova (big mistake) 1973 Buick Skylark Sport Coupe (not a big mistake) 1980 Audi 4000 1989 Honda Accord SEI (very cool, leather, moonroof, bose and a 5 speed) 1996 Acura Legand (more of the same) 1999 Acura RL Navi (even more)
My first post! Let's see.. 1. 92 Buick Skylark -- Inherited from parents, accident in first winter 2. 86 Ford Escort -- Fell apart (quite literally) 3. 88 Plymouth Reliant -- Also fell apart (same spot), but we fixed it. 4. 05 BC Silver Prius -- Tomorrow
Ok Ok, I'll play too 1. '81 Honda Civic with 300+ thousand miles and still ran 2. '97 Rav 4 - Car of the year that year - first new car 3. '99 Isuzu Amigo - Rav 4 got T-boned, wanted more oomph 4. '01 Celica GTS - Went to work for Toyota, this was first "eval" car - gave the Amigo to Mom 5. '02 MR2 Spyder - They took the Celi out of the eval program, needed small and fast, Spyder filled the bill and I later added a turbo charger 6. '02 Matrix XR - Eval program, support vehicle while working on Spyder 7. '02 Tundra - needed to move some things while I had the Spyder 8. '03 Lexus IS300 - It was either that or a MB C230 Sportcoupe - wanted something refined and quick 9. '04 Prius - I achieved automotive enlightenment when I realized that saving money, polluting less, and having lotsa gadgets was most important Next car will be hard to find - hard to fill the Prius shoes - it will need to be an even more advanced generation of the Synergy drive and should have adaptive speed control, wireless internet, dynamic navigation system, and driver recognition ;-)
8) 1968 Ford Farmont 1967 Ford Fairlane 1974 VW Super Beetle 1982 Toyota Starlet EFI 1987 Toyota Camry 5 speed 1996 Toyota T-100 P/U 2004 Prius
1997 Saturn SL-2. Saturn advertises itself as "a different kind of car company." I told the salesman that if they brought out a hybrid, I'd buy another Saturn. But they didn't. Instead, they came out with an SUV. Very original. Toyota is, in my opinon, a "different kind of car company."
