On my GEN 3 Prius and my Highlander I just tap the power off the overhead lights. This way its a nice short 8-10" run without having run down pillars. On the Prime when I get my dashcam in, I'll see if I can do something similar.

Since I got into the habit of watching all the dash cam videos on You Tube - it scared me (good thing) into purchasing a dash cam. I live in a retirement community and the drivers are bad! I'm not saying I'm any better, though. But - twice lately I've nearly been hit by people running stop signs. So I tried a cheapie dash cam from Walmart. It didn't work so I bit the bullet and purchased one from Best Buy. It is a Think Ware model X700. It has a rear camera, too! That is important from what I've seen on those You Tube videos. Best Buy installed it and I think that was $65 - worth it to me and they do a fantastic job. I've checked out the video recordings and they are superior! I highly recommend this camera - or any quality dash cam. The piece of mind along with video and audio proof in case of an accident - priceless. Seems to be a lot of hit-and-runs nowadays or people claiming innocence. No wonder Tesla installs 8 cameras from the factory.

Nice, but I opted for the easier route. See these threads:
