There is no kit yet. People are raving about the possibilities such a package will provide.

The video interface for the 2004 Prius is meant for the rear view camera, the XM radio kit is totally independant of that. The added ability to add a DVD player is the only "hack" involved with the car -- everything else is specifically designed for the Prius.

I'd check with your dealership first. They make a camera and all the wires are (most likely) there to be used for that situation. They will be able to say "sure, we can do that" or at least look into it further. The camera is a real feature... so there is official documentation floating around somewhere within the Toyota corperate ether.

    As for the DVD player...
Yes, it is a safety hazard -- for morons who watch a DVD while driving. That's why one watching the road, not a DVD.
    No, it is not illegal.

I've tried several times to get a price on the DVD/MP3 player, with the camera to be added later. No response.

Now, DVD isn't illegal as long as the driver can't see it while the car is moving. I understand some in-dash units enforce that rule. However, just like how early CD-ROM drives couldn't digitally read CD audio but now most can, some DVD players that allow the driver to watch while driving are being installed in cars. Bad news for people caught breaking the law...

rflagg, does the techinfo.toyota.com site allow you to download the manaul as one big file? (Via any method?) Or do I have to save over 1500 files like you did?

You have to download each page 1... by 1... by 1. There is no bulk download.

Wow. My time is worth more than that. I might as well buy the printed edition. Either that, or wait until I have a need, which is what I'm sure Toyota is counting on!

    Hello All
As we are all busy, I am sure the kind Prius owners of this group understand and can empathize with someone who works 18+ hours a day. We do custom engineering projects as well as make kits for the Prius. Now, I know that those who are interested in the new kits we offer, and are going to offer when they are ready, would like to see these immediately :multi: however, myself and my new son would like to see him once in a while also. :argue:

All of the kits we offer, we make....except for the XM kit which anyone can purchase themselves directly from Toyota, just without our stellar instructions  Anyway, as Coastal makes all its own kits, we tend to stay very busy and we get to them as soon as possible. Many of our customers purchase through us because they appreciate the work we have done in supporting the Prius these years and are obviously in it for the right reasons (we own 2!) We do much for our customers for free or at a substantially reduced rate (look at our keys and helpful tech info). Our kits go thru testing and much thought goes into installation that many people can do by themselves...our kits take time because we do it well. As you can see, I am also a fan of the work that is done here. Please don't be upset if emails sometimes go unanswered, we get-literally-thousands of emails every week. I, myself, take many calls every week from people who just want to talk and get info about why their car is acting funny or why they aren't getting the gas mileage they thought they would. They like to use us a resource for questions and concerns about their Prius and we are happy to help- but it all takes time. So, that being said, Coastal Dave will get to the 2004 kits just as soon as he possibly can....however, some of you will have to stand in line behind me :p Although he really enjoys doing it so maybe not!
    Happy Motoring!

Can you get the 9 speaker JBL system without the DVD navigation option?
Then integrate XM into the Prius

Here in Hawaii, the BC option they offer has everything except the DVD Nav since not much use here. (they adjusted the price) so it is possible to order such a configuration. but no bluetooth though :? wish it still had it even without dvdnav.

We don't know anything really specific at the moment. Coatal Dave, a "Prius Hacker," has shown pics of an in dash DVD player working through the Prius display, but he has not gotten it to the point where it is available to check out.

You can keep up to date with his progress at http://www.coastaletech.com

I think he's saying "I haven't heard from Dave, so I'm asking again".

I'd ask too, but I already know only Dave will provide info, on Dave's schedule...
