I was considering these for the parking lights and for the license plate bulb. Has anyone tried them?

How hard is it to install these for the parking light? I'll have to search for a video. There's a local shop would charge $90 to install the 5000k hid kit I mentioned above. I could do it myself, but I am not 100% I would do it correct. Good deal or ripoff?

Super easy to install (otherwise I wouldn't have replaced them so many times lol). It helps if you have smaller hands to remove/install the bulbs but it's doable with adult hands. It's just a twist-lock mechanism.

For the HIDs, it's a bit more involved. My unit only had one power cable on the driver's side so it ran a long cable to the ballast on the passenger side. This just meant I had to ensure that the passenger side OEM power attachment is sealed off to prevent dust from accumulating (if/when I go back to the OEM halogen setup).

The hardest part of installation is deciding where to mount the ballasts. Mobile HID's ballast are rather large compared to the others (like the one in the first thread I link below, he says he squeezed it between the fuse box and the body of the car. My ballasts definitely won't fit)

Here are some old threads with pictures to help you out!

We'll see if we can get some of the guys who are more knowledgeable of HIDs into this thread :)

@F8L and @sfv41901, care to chime in?

I'm going with the Canbus relay instead of the hd relay so that should make it easier according to TRS. Do I have to drill holes in the dust cover to get the wiring to fit in?

If you get the right H11, it's a direct plug & play. I did not have to modify anything on my car and it's completely reversible with my kit.

Oh and there's no dust cover on the Gen 3 like there was on the Gen 2.

Ok (I actually didn't know there was an "a" and "b" version).

But I'm worried that the Canbus relay isn't an option when I choose a '15 Prius on their site. That's what they told me to get so I don't have to worry about the hd relay harness installation issues. I had to order the Canbus without selecting the type of car that I have so I hope they are correct.

This thread mentions something about a ground wire shadow.

XeonDepot or TRS HID retrofit kit | PriusChat

I have no idea what it is (seems to be limited to that particular kit) but maybe check with a few members here about it.

Try a different year like 2014 or 2013. (Don't choose 2010 or 2011. Even if they use the same H11 bulb, the headlight assembly is slightly different so just to be on the safe side, choose 2012 or newer)

What I did is just clicked on the kit under hid systems and chose the bulb and harness manually.

    '15 Prius Persona-Blizzard Pearl

For the parking lights. Is it just a matter of reaching under and unscrewing the bulb and adding the new bulb in?

    '15 Prius Persona-Blizzard Pearl

I wonder if I can install this hid kit without the Canbus relay.

    This one is pricy
I've used kensun and no-name HID kits (4 in total) and IMHO 55 watt kit is overkill. 35w gives plenty of light (50-80% more than halogens) and going above that would just blind oncoming traffic. It is also said that 55 watt kits overdrive bulbs, causing bluer light and premature bulb death.

BTW the $30 kits work as well as their more expensive counter parts, but the QC on those not on par; had one dead on arrival ballast.

Well, unscrewing the bulb holder (really just a 1/4 turn), then pulling out the holder so that you can access the bulb and then pull the bulb out (no need to twist).

I'm not sure. I think my unit is fairly basic.

Oh and you can put the "'15 Prius Persona-Blizzard Pearl" in your signature through your profile management. Right now, it's just sitting in the body of each post. A signature is situated below the dotted line in the forum

I use Tapatalk and if I turn it off it won't show up anywhere so everyone would keep asking what type of Prius I own.

Any drilling of the dust cover required?

No drilling was required for my unit. As I said, it was plug & play and completely reversible.

H11 bulbs don't require dust covers, they have a gasket under the tabs that seals against the mounting hole.

I'm lost on how the Canbus relay gets hooked up. Any help is well appreciated.

    Here's the Canbus.

The Canbus relay just goes between the ballast and the factory plug to prevent errors. So still plug and play.

You don't need the Canbus relay though.

I have everything plugged in without the Canbus, but the HID's won't turn on.

Common problem with Toyotas. Flip the plug connecting to the factory light harness, the one that would've gone to the original headlight bulb.

It's the reversed polarity causing the problem.

Canbus is needed. Works now. What's he best way of mounting the ballast? I can't believe they didn't supply me double sided 3M tape!

Just got done with the HID's and LED parking lights and license plate lights.

    HID 5500k with Canbus relay.
