And thank you for the words of support about my husband. We need them and they are appreciated more than you know. We are in for a tough road. They are saying his treatment is to prolong his life only. He has 2-5 years. He will have to stay on chemo until the cancer either goes away or he decides he's had enough. We are Hopi g it goes away, but there is only a 6% chance that will happen. It's very scary. We appreciate stories if cancer survivors so thank you for sharing.

Will drive him to chemo as often as possible. We both work so i wont be able to take off time every time he needs to go. There will be a lot of appointments he will have to go to that he can get to on his own.the good thing about colon cancer is that the drugs are supposedly "easy" by comparison to other chemo treatments. Hopefully that is true.

Check with your Doctor and hospital. There are plenty of support groups. You should join one. I did when my wife was in the throws of Cancer.

Many volunteers will drive you husband the days you cannot. The receptionist gave gasoline cards to chemo patients who asked. You will be Surprised how the Community can help your family.

My wife had many Saturday appointments for chemo, but my employer was very understanding on the weekday appointments.

Evenings was a given for radiation.

Your family can also help hopefully

Just talking to someone once a week about your experiences is helpful. Many are going through the same. You will need it. Many times you don't want to dump on your spouse because they are going through the cancer and treatment.

I recall one week I had to travel for business and a lady in the support group said she can take my wife an wait with her and drive her back. My wife approved. She arranged a stretch limo for the ride a surprise for us. Seems her brother was a chauffeur.

There was one young girl into support group who's mother could not afford a plane ticket to visit her daughter. The support group made a few donations and phone calls and it was taken care of.

I'll say a prayer for your family

First off i am sorry about your husband. There are some natural cancer not cures but things that will put cancer in its place so to speak. I have seen several things out there. Some legal some only legal in a few states. I wont say more here because i dont want anyone banning me. BUt i will say i have read there are diets for cancer which mean no sugars and such. Also there are some helpers out there that are legal.
So many people just dont accept anything not prescribed by a dr or they dont know. We have a Dr here in Overland park who is a homopatihiac Dr and helps allot of people where regular Drs say there is no hope.

To the Car i just got a 2010 Prius and i love it. We came from a car getting 15MPG in town. A 01 Nissan Altima. My Prius is like a dream car compared to that. It had 51K miles on it. I would say test drive it and maybe take it to a toyota dealer and have it checked out. Also check with your local toyota dealers we have one here Olatha toyota that any Toyota that passes the certified inspection and can be classified as a certified used car gets a lifetime toyota warranty which covers the entire power train and hybrid stuff.
I am no expert but i dont think 91K is allot of miles. I would have any car i bought though checked out.

Sorry to hear about your families challenges. I wish the best for yourself and your husband.

I would say, you really have done your homework on this vehicle. I would also say, the unfortunate truth is when buying a used vehicle (and even a new vehicle to an extent ) there is always a degree of risk that can't be accounted for...

You could buy the Honda thinking it was the "mechanically" safer move and discover problems. You could buy The Prius and despite the best investigation, and have problems.

But if you are simultaneously purchasing an extended warranty, coupled with the degree of investigation you have done to this point, I think you've just about covered yourself the best you can. About the only step you haven't taken is having a different dealership or independent mechanic check it out. Which you could do. Otherwise, it is simply up to yourself and your husband.

I normally wouldn't recommend an extended warranty to anyone but given your need and dependence in regards to this vehicle it's probably a good move for you. As others have pointed out, just make sure as comprehensively as possible EXACTLY what you are paying for and exactly what is covered and not covered.

Best of of luck and outcomes in all regards.

It seems to me that a used Prius is a bad deal for two reasons: it keeps its value so you aren't getting much of a deal, and the high cost of repair if something fails when the warranty runs out. I would buy a new one or at least a low mileage one.

I think back in the 90s many companies were throwing out cars like they were A dime a doz. and I would have said no way to a car with 90k but today your fine. There are videos on how to really up your gas millege I'd watch so you can save money there. And if you learn not to use your physical brakes much you'll be able to put off new brakes longer.

I would google alternative medicines for cancer. I know I'd do anything for my wife to make sure she was ok. But if you believe in prayer go to your church and get prayed over. You can also call prayer lines and I know a church in Tulsa, ok rhema bible has a healing center. But I have always believed if you believe you can pray over yourself And you over your husband and stand on faith. Read every healing scripture you can find over and over and over.

I agree also with a poster above that you can join a group and they will be a big help.

Yes, I would if the price was decent. And on a 2010 that is virtually guaranteed to be a bias toward highway miles.

We decided to get the Prius. We asked about all the questions people mentioned here and got the right responses for all of them. Too many to list, but we definitely did our research and feel confident in our decision.

Turns out my brother bought his 2009 Prius about a year ago with 78k on it and he said he is now well over 100k. I asked if he would buy one with 91k on it and he said he would.

Someone mentioned that a used Prius was a bad idea because they hold their value well. Not that it will change anything, but do they really hold it so well that a used Prius wouldn't be worth it? You're still not paying for the difference, right? Just curious. As to getting one that is either new or with lower miles...well, that just isn't affordable to us. So, 91k it is.

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers for my husband. Sloan Kettering is actually setting us up with a social worker who can help us find support. I'm not the type to normally go to a support group but this is by far the most difficult thing I have ever had to deal with, so I agree that we both need it and I am actually looking forward to it.

I appreciate all the advice and feedback. It was a big help.

I'm just coming up to 100,000 miles with my 2010. Still feels like new. Oil is still very clean coming up to oil change time.

    Just check maintenance history.

Congrats on your purchase! I hope it serves you well.

The advice to join a support group was good. Take all the help and support you can.

So we went to go pick up our Prius tonight after rushing our bank, telling Toyota we need the car ASAP, and being told we were all set to come and get it, and.... We get there and they tell us they can't give it to us yet because they don't have the title! Huh?! Is this normal? Selling a car you don't have the title for yet?

They said they are waiting for it from Toyota (I guess toyota financial) because they were buy it off of someone's lease. But why no mention of this before? How can they sell it without it being officially there's yet? My husband and I are really annoyed that this didn't come up until we were there to pick up the car.
