How is it a move to push "government motors" when ford benefitted the most? GM sales barel moved up while ford shot up 35%. Maybe is a ploy by the use government to cause hyundai sales to skyrocket as well? OMG think of the implications!!!!!! What most people consider a witch hunt is usually when there is no problem, unlike the problem that toyota does have (which hopefully they fixed). With acceleration complaints going back to 2004. Would I buy a 2010 prius, yes. The hybrids don't seem to have the acceleration issue.
Would I buy a Prius Today? The answer is, "Yes!":cheer2:As a matter of fact, I bought it this evening, and pick it up tomorrow morning (Saturday). I've read my eyeballs out PriusChat®, I even downloaded the user manual and read all of it. (That fob section is literally pages of ) After researching dealers in my area and visiting a few, I ended up at One Toyota of Oakland. I let my salesman know that I was not planning on purchasing today. I was only there to test drive, and the Prius was only one of the cars I was considering. He was copacetic with that. One Toyota works "Saturn" sales style. Fixed Prices, no negotiating, and very transparent on how they work. And their prices were better than the Costco or AAA web-deal prices. Their real prices and inventory on their website. In addition, that 2.9% financing, they gave me much better than Blue Book on my 2002 MINI Cooper with 136,200 miles on it. I did my homework, and with that trade-in, I decided to go for the IV rather than the III. I had planned on solar package :flame:as well. I even went to the DMV site to verify the fees they were charging, and they matched exactly. Needless to say, I was treated well, (my best Car Dealer experience ever); even the finance guy was respectful and never tried to push anything at all. Also (thanks to the Board), I told them I need the Reverse Beep option programmed so it only chimes once. No problem there either. Am I a bit nervous about the car trying to kill me? Not really. I have never been much of a Cruise Control user, and I'll hold off on using it until they get all programming issues taken care of. I still am deciding if I will go with the Toyota Platinum 7/100000 Mile or the WarrantyPro 6/100000. I need to check everything, but I obviously I have a year to do that. Now, to get to sleep, and enter the world of Hybrids tomorrow. Oh, and say goodbye to my MINI Cooper Boards!
RedBack - did you get the 2.9% financing based on your good credit? That's the lowest rate I've seen besides the talk of the 0% on everything BUT the Prius.
The witch hunt is the overload of comments from government "experts" and media talking heads who have no idea what they are talking about and only want to get their name in papers and TV. Funny thing is the American manufacturers have similar problems with braking systems and have issued recalls, but there is no where near the hysteria as stirred up over Toyota. I agree there is a possible problem, but until you have samples that you can consistently reproduce the claimed symptoms, you cannot fix a phantom problem. I am confident Toyota will get to the bottom of the problem and will solve it. If you recall, Audi had a similar complaint in the late 80s/ early 90s and never really found a cause. Their problem was in blaming the customer for getting confused and stepping on the wrong pedal. If that was true, then it should have been obvious to them that they need to design the pedals to be further apart or greater difference in size to help the driver be sure of which pedal he or she is depressing.
Well, if I didn't already own a 2010 Prius I would certainly be shopping for one. It is probably the best vehicle ever made - Jim Calvert
Good time to buy. Just insist on a discount. You might as well take advantage of the political climate.
Would I buy a 2010 Prius today? Absolutely, without hesitation or second thought. Heck, I'd even pay sticker price! (again)
Yes, I had good credit. The March 2nd - April 5th special for the Prius right now is: $750 Cashback or 1.9% 36 Month 2.9% 48 Month 3.9% 60 Month I believe I overheard them saying FICA score over 720 qualified you for those rates.
I bought my Gen III Prius in VA on Feb 15 Presidents Day Holiday. Dealer had a special offer--60 months, 0% financing, no money down. Got about $2K off the MSRP on a Model II. Outstanding deal I could not pass up. Lovinit.
We bought ours last June and had to pay list(we did get a very good trade value). Since last June our car computer average is 54.3. For the first 6600 miles the difference between computer and actual milage has been 3.7%. We must be lucky as we never saw a computer average get below 50 since we purchased our Prius. We did not use it when it was icy or snowing as we live on top of a small mountain(large steep hill on river bluff) and we didn't want to buy snow tires as we have a all wheel drive we use when the weather is bad. So, the answer is we would buy one again and especially now as you can get better terms than when we bought ours. I just looked and the current tank computer is 54.5 mpg as we are now warming up to the lower 40 degree temp's. The best we have seen on our V was 59.9 last August. I hope to see it get over 60 mpg this Summer. I guess our biggest concern was how much we would have to give up in mpg to get the V. It seems to get a little better than our 2005 Prius that we sold to my brother(who by the way loves it). The other concern was the ride with the 17 inch tires. It is a little firmer than our old Prius, but the handling is so much better I am glad we got the V.
In a heartbeat! It would have been great to get a deal or 0% interest. I did get a deal by buying in Kansas instead of Texas. Here they were adding $3000 to MSRP for a model I didn't want. I got exactly what I wanted, lucky me, in 2 days and no add-on options that I didn't want; the savings were greater than $3000. I love the MPG. I never imagined I could love white as much as I do this white. I have zero buyer's remorse. I know this car isn't for every driver, but it is for me!
Hello hlkc, I'm looking for the same config - IV w/ Nav. Can you share with me the actual price and the dealership info (i assume bay area,ca) where you purchased. Thanks
Absolutely not. How could i put my wife or children knowingly in a car that may have serious life threating issues? Its one thing to buy a Prius before recent problems but to buy one now with all the possible safety problems no way!!
An interesting response from someone that does not own a Prius. That having been said .... your thoughts are vastly overwhelmed by people that do own a Prius. Maybe it would be safer to stay at home .... anytime a person get behind the wheel of any car the exposure to danger is increased: Tire failure, other motorist, drunk drivers, road hazards, snow and ice and etc. The same can be said in one form or another for all forms of public transportation as well.
Sigh.... I guess the media's done a good job of putting doubt in your mind. Stories that grab attention (accurate or not) are what helps the media sell advertising. What "safety problems" does the 2010 Prius have? All cars might have safety problems. Just because the media created this stupid frenzy and did all this negative coverage every day for the ~2 weeks following 1/21/10 (and is still continuing, but at a lesser degree) doesn't mean that Toyotas are unsafe and everyone else's vehicles are safe. All major automakers have recalls. They happen all the time.
