It does take a long time for the car to figure out there are no TPMS sensors present. Apparently it treats low tire pressure different.
Those are the chromed rims Toyota offers? The way you've photographed makes them look silver-painted, and I like that look better. I think if I had a set of those I'd get a body shop to paint them in Classic Silver (1F7).
So, 10 days ago, I put new wheel and new winter tire set I purchased online. Tire came mounted and balanced onto new wheels, ready to be installed. I went without internal TPMS inside of tires. Car had TPMS warning light all this time. Yesterday, my aftermarket external TPMS warning came on. One tire is at 30 psi. it is a slow leak, probably bad seal or valve. Glad to have working external TPMS. I just topped up the tire with some air, and now it should hold till I swing by a tire shop to have it fixed tomorrow.
Well you'd think, but I've driven that only on asphalt (well there was a road construction going on near my house so it's dirtier than usual). Salt and who knows what else is on there. Haven't washed it for a month. Maybe it's time .
I recall looking at some Hakk snow tires in a tire shop: run your hand over the tread, it feels like a stiff-bristle brush.
Are these them Mendel? Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 - Strength and stability in the harshest winter conditions / Nokian Tires
Oh I can't remember. They were Nokian Hakk snow tires, over a decade back too. The tread is very closely siped: you can flex it with your hand like stiff bristles. Good for extreme northern climes.
I lived in the town of Nokia as a kid. The tyre company "Nokian" headquarters and factory is still there. The first There are also Nokian rubber boots (nowadays they are a separate company). When I used to live there they made these in the same building. A really traditional brand here. Front page - Nokian Footwear
I wanted to try Nokian WG3 or R2, but found a better deal on Michelin Xice. Very hard to find great deal on Nokian in the US.
Just found this they are opening a plant in the US in 2 years. 3 Plants after that. One in Nokia Finland, one in Russia and one in Dayton.
You can reset the maintenance light with the MID in maintenance setting or just look it up on youtube
