Has anyone tried to remove tint? Can you do it yourself, and how hard is it? What does a shop charge to remove it?

My niece was asking me how hard it would be to get off. She got a fix-it ticket. Seems like it would just peel off? But I guess not. I suggested she let a tint shop do it.

HomeDepot sells a small spray bottle for this. Peel off a bit, then spray between the glass and the sheet, wait a few seconds, peel more and spray and wait, work all the way down. When it's all peeled off, spray it on the glass then scrape with a used credit card to take out residual glue. Smells bad.

The solution has ammonia, which help loosen the glue. Works for home window tint and automobiles.

Thanks. That must be a mess. Especially doing the rear window, trying to squeeze into the back seat of a small sedan. And what about the defroster lines on the glass? Better tell her to let the pros do it. (I hope I never get stopped.)

I did it while windows were warm/hot (2004 Prius). The temperature helped separation better than with window in the house. Soaked the glue better. Fwiw.

Mess cleaned up with lightly soapy water in a spray bottle (about 5 drops of dish detergent Palmolive in about 10-12 water in bottle.

I dropped my car off today and they are working on it now. 5% all around and also on the sunroof!
    43% on the windshield.

Pics to come later today!! I can't wait. The heat has been brutal these last 3 weeks so I am looking forward to some much due reprieve and the ability to run the AC less :)

Paid $300 for 30% Ceramic FormulaOne Pinnacle here in FL. I could've gone with lower but decided to just play it safe with the cops around here.

Never... I Have no desire nor do I want to go back to 17" wheels. They do handle better I'll admit but they are too easy to get curb rash on the wheels, more susceptible to pothole damage, are more expensive to replace and tires are more expensive and the mpg hit although minor on the Gen4 is still an issue. I am finally content with what I own, besides I actually like the two tone hubcaps that come on the three/four/Eco. The base two's single color ones not so much.

Anyways, I am so happy with the the tint job and it keeps the car so much cooler! :)

Really? I must say your one of a few that had that many issues with 17" wheels and tires bro. I live in WI and haven't had a single problem with them on my old Prius.
No mpg hit here bro. 63-65 mpg average.

Sorry but I beg to differ. :)

These are not high profile tires. I have yet to experience any curb rash or pothole damage. Al I know is that I'm VERY glad that I bought these. In my opinion it brings out the beauty of the Prius vs leaving it stock by 1000%.

Like I've said before I think your new rims are beautiful! They are real sharp and probably handle great and that is great that you are getting really good mpg's(y)

I speak from experience and I really liked the way my old persona handled and bragged about the handling on here back in the day... but the little rubber lip on the tires are not enough to prevent curb rash on low profile tire/rim combos. I curbed my Persona once and it took a chunk out of the lip and the rim. Also on the blue crush three touring that I was contemplating buying and did an extended test drive on it somehow had curb rash and it was a new car on the lot!? Also on my old Mazdaspeed 3 I cracked (repairable) a rim with its low profile wheels and also blew out a wheel on my parents old Buick ultra with its lower profiler tire (unrepairable)...both were due to the notorious Philly potholes. So yeah it happens. And no I have never blown out a rim with a non low profile tire/rim combo.

I guess if you are a perfect driver that never hits potholes and never gets a little too close to the curb then it's all a mute point. I challenge you to find a perfect set of low profile rims/tires that are more than a couple years old and not a show car... Most all that I see are all chewed up..

And in reference to my other comments they are facts: 17" wheels are more expensive to replace and tires do Cost more. But I'll say again they do handle better, but that's not saying my Three handles bad, quite the contrary I feel it handles really well. Probably has something to do, well a lot to do with the reworked suspension. I am content with my car as is for now.

Either way let's not derail the Tint thread anymore..:)

    Goodnight:sleep:
