You can haul and tow many things fine with a 2WD truck.
We bought our 2000 2WD Tundra and have hauled many things and occasionally towed. It serves our needs well and was much less expensive than 4WD.
Most people driving the Prius v do not want the additional height and weight of the RAV4.

Prodigyplace - Guesswork or Take-It-To-The-Bank fact, this is more hard, published data on the future of the Prius v passed Model Year 2017 than you or anyone else on PriusChat have shared with the eyeballs of those Prius v(vee)'erz gathered here.

That's not hard data. It's published, but not by anyone who actually knows anything.

I mean, I can say that there'll be a 2018 Prius v based on the 2018 Camry Hybrid, getting 50 mpg, with a Prime option, and the US finally gets the third row. Doesn't mean that that's actually happening.

So let's not base whether the car will be available on written documentation. Let's just base it on unsupported comments. Geez.

Gathered Prius Petrol "Warfighters" - Stick with me here..., as I have the "Prius v Research Bit" in my teeth, and am still seriously running this "Truth-Rumor-Lie" to ground as I attempt to sort it out.

I am told by a contact of mine in Toyota Sales that there exists a "Toyota Press Release" announcing that there will be no 2018 & Beyond Prius v offered-sold in the US. I do not know about Canada.

But, of course, we know that Limey Land & OZ are going to continue offering "The Prius v(vee)," including the Seven (7) Passenger Version. I have been promised a copy of the "Toyota 'No Mo Prius v' Press Release." Hopefully, I will get it sent to me soon.

if there were a press release, it would already be posted here. your sources are toying with your emotions.

Greetings Bisco - Slight correction... The Toyota Sales guy is ATTEMPTING to toy with my emotions. You cannot "Toy" with something that is not present on the dealing table. I really do not want to trade in my flawlessly performing, mint 2012 70K-miles Pv5ATP for $10,500 on a never registered, but year old, "End-Of-Model-Year" $36,000 2017 replacement Pv5ATP. My wife and I are always open to considering a "Killer, One-Time-Good Deal," but of course, typically, one never is offered... so, I finish my free cup of "Colombian Coffee," we smile, thank them for their time, collect our promotional "Gratis $10 Wal-Mart Card," and leave.

Let me emphasize that my local Toyota sales team sources cannot be "toying with your (my) emotions" because "My Emotions" are not even in the mix. First, I am smart enough to know that I am susceptible to contracting "Car Fever" in negotiating car deals. That is why, when I am looking to buy or negotiate a car, I opt to sit back and drink the dealer's complimentary coffee, and turn my beauteous 100 lb, "Redheaded Green-Eyed, Green Eye-Shaded" CFO wife loose on them, whilst I savor the free coffee, and watch Her Royal Nibs bring the local dealer's Sales Force to their deal negotiating knees. That sweet Family Money Finance Minister darling... never blinks first, and takes no prisoners. The sales guys always say, "We are loosening money on that deal price," we know they are not, so it ends being "Much Sales Ado About Nothing."

In the case in point of this thread, you are correct that if it was a true, Public Toyota Press Release, it would be already posted here. As we speak-type here the Sales Guy has not delivered the proffered "Scanned Copy Of The Notice" to me via an attachment to my email. Giving the Sales Manager Guy (whom we have know for over a decade...he sold us our previous 2007 GEN II Prius Liftback in 2006, which included a US Government Rebate) some slack, I shall wait a few days before saying he was doing exactly what you say he was attempting to do in your above quote.

My wife got a "Killer Deal" on the "Model Year 2012 Prius v Pv5ATP back during the annual Christmas 2011 Holiday Toyotathon Sale because regular "John & Jane Doe" buying customers were clueless about the newly offered "Larger, More Versatile" Prius v Wagon v(vee), and would not buy the v(vee) because they all wanted the lift back sedan with higher Monroney Sticker EPA MPG-FE numbers. Our local Toyota dealer "Had to sell, and get the v(vee) off the lot" before 2012's New Year... so my wife (& we) were able to pen a wondrous "Killer 'Out-The-Door' Deal" at the 11th Hour on 12/27/11.

I did send the sales guy a copy of the recent Motor Trend Buyers Guide blurb on the "Model Year 2018 Prius v Wagon/Crossover, which is the same material I shared above with the gathered Prius-Lovers' eyeballs here on PriusChat.

I have never gotten a killer Prius deal at Toyota- I think some dealers still are living off their 2008 memories of $2000+ over msrp on a Prius. As they say timing is everything and I don't go in very often. There is a Carmax dealer just down the street from the dealer and a couple years ago I sold a 250,000 mile Ford F150 truck to them at their appraised price. During a conversation I mentioned the lowball prices the Toyota dealer has given me on trades in the past 5 years and he told me that is was common for that dealer to bring a car over to them to price, then they would subtract a profit margin and that was their low ball trade in offer.
Carmax then bought that trade in for their appraised price-

Trade in price isn’t an important number. The only number that matters is the price to change.

See the most recent posts at 2017 v or 2018 ? | PriusChat I got it directly from Toyota corporate New England Regional guy who is connected to our neighborhood, my kids' school, mutual friends, etc., that the Prius v is sunsetting in the US and there is no 2018 being offered. This discussion wasn't part of him selling me anything (he isn't affiliated with a dealer, just Toyota itself). It was a conversation over BBQ at a kid's birthday party and we were discussing my family's recent purchase process.

I suppose the argument will ultimately be resolved after the November shows for those who don't believe this, but in the meantime, I personally trust my corporate source rather than the Motor Trend crystal ball gazing.

SpindleCity - In my Navy service days, we would call such "conversation over BBQ" information sources "The Port Butter Cutter In The Chow Line." As you say, "I suppose the argument will ultimately be resolved after the November...". So we may know the answer regarding the Model Year 2018 v(vee) by Thanksgiving.

As far as data, to date, from the "Reliable Sources" of gathered eyeballs here on PriusChat goes, it has, so far, all been "Hand Waving Textual Verbalized Reporting" along the lines of from the moving lips of car salesmen, whispers heard somewhere in the hall or like your report about the imminent demise of the Prius v heard in a "conversation over BBQ at a kid's birthday party." Not to discount the "Backyard BBQ Info," as your source was a "personally trust(ed) my corporate source." However, it still is "Hearsay."

That Toyota Corporate fellow shared this Prius v "Straight Skinny" with you between bites of BBQ & Sips Of Beer, and he may be right and Motor Trend's Buyers Guide published crystal ball gazing maybe all wrong. However, as can be seen in the above extracted "Hard Copy Information" I shared from the latest Motor Trend Buyers Guide, the information was put in writing and published by Motor Trend. Whereas all the other sources here on PriusChat about the survival of or demise of the Prius v "Vunder Vagon" in the US/North America car market are from "Sources Of A Port Butter Cutter Kind."

As for me personally, it is all academic. This is because my current mint, trouble-free 2012 Pv5ATP with 70K-miles on the clock still has 30K-miles to go before its Traction Battery goes out of Toyota Warranty Coverage. I shall be keeping and piloting that trouble-free "Whisper Sipper" v(vee) many more moons. Plus I am a Pseudo-Hypermiler, and like the old Hybrid System Indicator (HSI) present on the 2012 very much, and I am not that "Red Hot" about the "Refreshed" redesigned, newer HSI that is OEM on the 2017 v(vee). Add to this that even the loaded Model Year Pv5ATP does not have Cross Traffic Alert or Blind Spot Monitoring available among its "Spinning Red Wheels, Bells & Whistles" ATP options.

FWIW FYI: The earliest I would seriously be interested in swapping out my 2012 v(vee) to purchase a new Model Year Pv5ATP would be in Toyota's Model Year 2019 v(vee) offering...If there even is one.

You're correct that we'll soon know. And I appreciate you sharing the inside scoop with us. It's very difficult for corporations these days to keep secrets, with the lightening fast social media available. I do find it hard to understand how more people don't know, though. Some auto related publications pride themselves on reporting the rumors before message boards.

In the UK it’s not a big enough story. The headline would be ‘slow selling car is taken from sale after 7 years’. If it were a high volume or a much shorter period then I guess it would be a headline.

SpindleCity & Gathered Interested PriusChatterz - SpindleCity, thank you for your above anecdotal "Backyard BBQ Buzz" communications.

I just received a phone photo of a "Southeast Toyota-Sourced 'What Is New For 2018' Brief Visual" from my version of your Port-Butter-Cutter/BBQ-Eating "Toyota Corporate Insider." That Southeast Toyota Insider Info Pitch shows the "Prius v as 'Discontinued' For Model Year 2018."

Indeed, your BBQ Chitchatting Data combined with my Southeast Toyota-Sourced "What Is New For 2018" Brief Visual produced a "Correlation Spike" that shows the Motor Trend Buyers Guide blatterings to be speculatively erroneous, as regards the MY2018 Prius v(vee). The MY2017 v(vee) is the last Model Year v(vee) that will be offered in the US.

Now we Prius v(vee)'er aficionados can "Read 'Em & Weep."
