What makes you think that adding eAWD is a significant hit on MPG? The only impact is a small weight penalty. It does provide better acceleration due to one more motor and some extra battery capacity.

Adding eAWD to a Prius (as in the Japanese eFour) would still leave it above 50 MPG.

I've seen loads and loads of G4 Prii, and three other Primes.

 

I'll be pissed if we lose Prius v, which could still be our next car (if we do used).
I do not favor Toyota's front grill styling ...I liked the earlier v's appearance-wise.
But I'd like the more current safety features.

They say RAV4 is good for *old* people so I probably should give it look, we are not old now, but 10-yrs from now may need the old folks car, assuming we humans live as long as a new RAV4.

Just completed a 500 mile plus trip this weekend in my wife's Avalon. Why not the v? Because I'm not sure when I'll be sure the battery replacement fixed the v's Plock Malfunction non starts (400 miles between each of 2 failures) and I had to get there on time to bring the beer to the party (why does beer now come in cases of 36? I spent more on beer than gas for the trip!) and I needed to be at a friends house for a dinner and to take her to the doctors this AM. Brought back a bunch of walkers and crutches she had used. But didn't bring back the potty chair we further loaned to another friend but then it wouldn't have fit assembled into the Avalon, had in the v. Would in a CRV/Rav4 type.

On the trip I saw 3 Tesla Ss and discovered a former coworker had bought one. No BMW hybrids. Gas was $2.399 to $4.099. I gasped at a $36 fill! East coast I95. No current Honda CRVs spotted but I wanted to spot one to point it out to my wife.

I do want the electronic nannies. She has this thing that one failure and she never wants to drive the car again. I'm hoping it can prove itself again as it did for the first 43k miles and I can hold out with the v till the next generation of EVs. Though I'll have to work on convincing her that electric cars are simpler than a Prius hybrid.

At the rate you're going you can drive the 2012 for another 5 years and see whether or not ToyotaUSA gets their poop in a group with the G5's.
Maybe a future Prime wagon??

Or....by then you can make the leap from Petrol War-fighter to Petrol-Free.
The form factors for BEVs and your year to year mileages.......AND the fact that suckers.....(*) er, I mean "early adopters" have already paid a lot of the "non-recurring developmental costs" for BEVs......and dot.gov is still doing the kick-back thing for their buyers.

I would consider the Motor Trend statements to be speculative. For example, they say the regular Prius Hatchback will be unchanged while Toyota has been absolutely mum on it. Toyota made mid cycle changes with the Gen 3 Prius after 2 years, so with no news about the 2018, no one, including Motor Trend, knows. Toyota has said nothing about a 2018 v and there are rumors of it's demise, so again, who knows.

I doubt that your sales guy has inside info either, so it's up to you whether you consider what he said to be a lie or speculation.

Because people don't actually care about mileage. Or, they'll sacrifice it to get the taller CUV form factor and because they think they need 4WD.

Also, the v's acceleration is significantly worse than modern American standards (as is the entire Prius line, in fact) - the RAV4h is significantly quicker accelerating, which gives bad drivers (that don't know how to plan ahead for acceleration) more confidence when merging onto the freeway.

my son leased a rav4 for $179. a month for two years, nothing down. that's a pretty attractive deal.
