The Prius II SKS has the entry function, but it's only on the driver's door and is not on the front passenger door or the rear hatch.

I haven't read the whole thread, but to answer to the question to the topic, "no, why should it?". I think I remember seeing on the manual exactly when to disconnect the 12V battery. But honestly speaking I wouldn't worry at all for 2 weeks. 2 months, I would probably ask the dealer or check thoroughly the user's manual for information.

Latest results of 22 days without using car: NO PROBLEM. Started right up. I should add that during this 22 day period, I had to enter the car several times to retrieve various materials left in the car (books, MP3 player, CDs, etc.).

I just wanted to report my own experience. On Saturday November 14, I parked the car at a friend's house. The next morning I fainted and had to be taken to a hospital and then a rehab center. I worried and worried about whether the car would start upon my return. I was especially concerned that I wouldn't even be able to get into the vehicle. Today (Wednesday, November 25) I returned to the vehicle. I used the unlock on the remote function, and it unlocked the car. When I got into the car with the key fob, the dashboard blinked to indicate that I had the fob. I pressed the power button, and the car came on just fine. That made me feel a lot better!

I woke up to a dead battery in my Prius after it sat for 4 days. I also had to jump it last week after it sat for 12 days. During the 12 day absence I turned off the Smart Key. This is at least the 12th time in the 3 years I've had the car that the battery has died. Toyota of Seattle told me, after buying the car and having these problems, that the Prius has to be driving every day or hooked up to a trickle charger when not being driven. Otherwise, I will have a dead battery. I just talked to them this morning and they asked me if I had purchased a trickle charger. Seeing as how I live in downtown Seattle and have to street park my car, running an extension cord out to my car and leaving the hood up every night doesn't seem right. Everyone on this forum seems of the consensus that my problem is a "myth". That is disturbing because I feel it is very real. Is it just that with the newer models they have fixed the problem? There is a mention of a Toyota Bulletin that was put out addressing this issue. Can someone tell me where I might find this bulletin? Toyota wants to see my car again tomorrow. This will be the fourth time it's been in for this issue. In May of 08 they replaced a battery that apparently was causing the 12v to drain. I am not an auto repair person. I don't understand how batteries and engines co-exist. I just want to be able to get up and go outside and be able to start my car and drive away. Do I really have to drive my car everyday? Do I really have to plug it in every night? And where in the owners manual does it tell the consumer this? Thank you very much for any insight you can provide. I did read this thread, but became discouraged when it was put to bed as a myth....

No, you shouldn't need to drive it every day.
I have parked our gen II Prius for 17 days in an outside (covered) lot at the Minneapolis airport in February. Didn't turn off the smart key system and it started up just as any other car would.
Sure, it was a little sluggish to start (due to the cold) but had no issues.
Likewise I regularily start the car after 2-5 days of not using it at all. No issues.
I would go to a different dealer and have them check the 12V battery.

It's hit & miss with the batteries, as the threads show. Our 04 battery lasted 5 years, and it was still fine. We replaced it w/ an Optima battery & never looked back, because it has actual cranking amps. Our hybrid Lexus SUV, on the other hand died at just over 30K miles ... being replaced under warranty with another OEM. If THIS battery dies, we'll replace w/ an optime on the Lexus too.

Suppose, heaven forbid, that the battery dies. Will I be able to get into the vehicle with my key fob?

yes. u can still use your key. now if batttery is too dead, you will not be able to start car. not a lot of power is needed, but still need enough voltage to engage switch that connects traction battery.

its failsafe design requires OUTSIDE (the 12 volt battery) power source to enable

So did you try this procedure later? How did it work? Were you also able to restore operation later?

You haven't provided any evidence to show it is a real problem.

Re hairdryers: That would be a fashion disaster here in L.A.!

Re potato chips: Most definitely! But would that be a flaw in chip design or packaging?

I thought the prohibition ended long ago.

I went on vacation for 20 days. I turned off SKS by pressing the button under the steering wheel. My car is 3.5 years old with 112k miles.

When I came back the 12 volt battery was fine. The car started right up.

I recommend that you purchase a new 12V battery for your car. It sounds like you don't drive the car enough to keep the battery charged and it is not practical for you to use a battery charger. Therefore you should expect to buy a new battery more frequently than other owners who drive their cars daily over long distances.

What's up with the "don't leave the lights on" advice? I leave the headlights of my III on all the time when driving as running lights.
My III turns the headlights off after 30 seconds when stopped and out of the car.

Now if you are talking interior lights - I can understand where you could run out a battery if ~they~ were left on.
