I am pretty certain my 1997 Geo Metro may be slower than the Prius but it is a stick and I can do a 4000 rpm dump so maybe I could make a race of it... :lol:

that and Vipers are VERY hard to contol. No traction control. You could be going 50mp/h in 2nd gear and have someone pull up wanting to race. Then to your surprise flooring it would still fishtail the back end. It's not for just anybody and 80% of Viper owners aren't telented enough for the car.

Not trying to be a troll, be do people seriously think a hybrid is worth the investment????

I need not say much, once you realize that hyrbids are a scam and cost you more money then a non-hybrid of the same model when you need to replace the batterys in your car in about 3 yrs, (or 100,000 miles, whichever comes 1st).

Yes. Resale values of used Prius are going for more than their original MSRP. How many cars does that happen with? Fuel savings alone over 21 mpg truck (yes, I kept it and only use it for "truck" needs now) pay for half of my car payments. A cool $3,150 tax CREDIT doesn't suck either. Neither does the 6% sales tax waiver in Connecticut. Some get the advantage of the HOV lanes, single occupancy.

I'm sorry you're so sadly misinformed. There are many first and second generation Prius serving as taxi cabs with well over 200,000 miles on them and there are more all the time. No reported battery replacements yet. Also, just in case, there's that nice little 10 year/150,000 mile warranty in many states, including CT that covers the battery and other hybrid-specific equipment. I have no intention of holding on to the car (current or new 2006) for even half that long as I will certainly be looking for the plug-in version when it's released (2008?).

Im sure there are prius with over 200,000 miles which serve as taxis......weather or not the batterys still work even about 50% there original capacity is an entirely different story. The reason there are no reported replacments yet is becuase the company doesnt want to spend the money for new batterys....a hybrid isnt a electically powered car in the sence that it wont run with no battery, it will just act as a normal car running on 100% gasoline. An interesting observation. When I worked at Boston EPA back in the late 80s/early 90s, there was one particular woman who was, how shall I say it, "of a certain age." please do your research. the prius will not run without the hybrid battery, it is an integral and necessary part of the system. the electric side serves as the starter so the gas engine will not even start without battery power. the real reason there are extremely few (1-2 nationally, one due to abuse and one quirk) replacements is because the state of charge is very strictly regulated, avoiding overcharge and deep discharges to prolong battery life.

20 years? where on earth did you get that number? maybe that would be less ridiculous of an estimate with a performance hybrid (highlander hybrid, lexus rx400h, accord hybrid)- but not in the civic hybrid or prius.

In this, my friend, you are sadly mistaken. I KNOW I cannot be the only one on this board who had a choice of what vehicle to buy, for what I paid for the Prius, or for quite a bit more, had I so chosen. I chose the Prius. Why? I paid 2600 over MSRP on my 04 the first yr of ownership I saved 2700 in gas.. I'd say I saved plenty the car saved me 2400 in 05. I have never had one problem with the car.. My wife was a GM person but now if asked she will tell you she's been converted to Toyota as the products are more reliable than the GM cars she has owned. the only thing her car has had done is a set of tires, oil changes and two service bulliten fixes that where just prevenitve maint.
