Any fuel source contains "energy" enough compacted to propel a 3000lb car down the road for hundreds of miles.

Anytime you tap into that, there will be an instant release (hydrogen, propane, nuclear)

IMO LiIon batteries are safer than liquid gas that can spill everywhere.
Batteries are more contained and less likely for instantaneous explosion but rather burns over time.

They need to contain them well, just like gasoline.

    They will.
One of the groovy things about these stories is that it will incentivise Tesla to redouble their efforts to do so.

    LOL! Exactly!
    It drives me nuts!

They spend millions to tool and die for a "teaser" to give the competition ideas just to trash can it later because the competition is already in the game... Well duh! Who gave them the idea?

These cars aren't made out of play dough... I don't see why they don't make it happen, even at half of the proposed gas mileage it would be a landslide winner on looks alone!

The game is deceptive... It's to excite shareholders and the public into buying stock with no intentions of actual production.

They are selling more than just cars here! Much more profit is made from stocks...
The big guys buy low , introduce the teaser, drives the stock up, they sell, reality hits, they buy again.

Stupid for progress but it's cheaper and more profitable since they can keep pushing old technology they are already set up for. (like Nimh)

Thank God for competition... When a company has the means to do so and nothing to lose because they aren't already set up, they do something innovative that revolutionizes things "like tesla".

Ever wonder why the gigantic companies are never the ones that bring in great leaps of technology but rather crawl at a snails pace?

It's more profitable to milk things as long as it will sell, until the new guy messes up the party and changes the game.
