I agree. I just made this comparison and the choice was made to get the prius because of the extra space in the prius, both in the passenger areas and especially the larger cargo area. Volt pluses were looks and 50 miles of electric travel.

Toyota engine vs. Chevrolet engine. Easy decision. Toyota always win. It will last longer. GM cars are poorer quality.

I love everything about the volt it is reliable look good powerful fun to drive 50 miles completely electric no noise but in the end space of toyota win :( Dont get me wrong I like my Prius but if it was not from the space i would have a Volt hand down

Agreed, in an ideal world I would have the Volt drivetrain in the Prius packaging.

No I am guilty of read-across from prior Gen's but I am under the impression

P.S.- I recommend Prime for the OP

GM sells cars based on appearance rather than functionality and aerodynamics, hence why the bolt is an aerodynamic disappointment but likely will sell because Mericans prefer driving vehicles shaped like a cardboard box.

Difference being, the Japanese government is smart about how the money is spent. They don't turn it into some fat-cat gain with a nice political interference twist for fun.

    Huge difference.

Consumer Reports came out with their car quality reports this past week. Top Manufacturer on list: Lexus/Toyota. Top compact car: Prius. The Chevy volt was not rated very well.

Bottom line, Toyota has a superior design over what GM has. The Prius is a very practical car even if it weren't a hybrid. They're built well and despite all the rumors the general public have are very reliable. People seem to think the batteries will fail, yeah but not nearly as often as people think. I got behind a Gen I Prius today, kind of surprising because they're hard to pick out since they look like a more ordinary Corolla or similar.

The other thing about GM is Daewoo.... They make their Ecotec engines and years ago when I bought a Pontiac G3, that engine was terrible. Didn't make any power, wasn't very fuel efficient (I got maybe 32 MPG on a good tank). Then at 40,000 the valve pan cover gaskets began to leak oil down the side of the engine. Then I discover that GM thought it was ok to use a plastic pulleys for the timing belt. Turns out the pulleys would crack and break from the heat ruining the engine.

It is important to remember that the 2017 volt was NOT included in the report, nor were 2015 or earlier.

There are more objective reports than CR , Tesla S for example has more defects per unit than even the 2016 volt yet still gets a more favorable rating from CR.

CR is only good for TP
