One of the finest plant physiologists I ever knew did not have a PhD. He did however perform and publish excellent research.

Anyone can be a scientist, who will put in the effort and who is capable of deeply rational thought. Academic documents represent short hand identifiers of such people I guess. And as such are occasionally unreliable. I also know (and know of) PhDs duly documented who are remarkably unscientific in their world views.

I knew PhD's who had to wear velcro shoes.
I also knew of some superbly talented PIs who were a joy to work with and in addition to being out on the sharp end of the stick, were humble enough to cast pearls before this little piggie.

Mostly I learned that practical oceanography is somewhat like life aboard combat submarines.
NOTHING like it is portrayed in media, mostly because media doesn't convey smells, cold, grit salt, bone crushing fatigue, etc...... ;)

I also learned that there CAN be a yuuuuge air gap between data and truth.

I fix phones for a living now because it's more honest work, with better customer relations.

It is always better to be under estimated. Better to sit in the back and be brought forward (Luke 14:10).

i've sat in the back my whole life, hoping not to be noticed. i was brought forward a few times, but not for good behavior.
in church, the front pews are empty, cause everyone is afraid of a pop quiz

    That.
    Actually?
I never mind the pop quizzes at all, and our preacher knows not to give them to retired CPOs anyway.
One of the advantages of using an iPad as my bible is that I don't have to fumble with the bible very much during the read-along, and I don't sing off-key - SO I actually PREFER being a front row Baptist but only because of the proximity of the two least-used exits in the place.

    HOWEVER (comma!!)
When I'm not on security duty, I sit in the very last row, right side of the left doorway.

... US$64 thousand dollar questions inquiring minds would like to know: Will the CIA people flip the election again, for Harris? Or, will they decide upon sitting back, passively managing Trump like they did, last time?

Just how far can a bimbo go, sleeping her way to the top? You're about to find out!

I prefer the second row behind the front occupied seats. I can hear and see the service easily and when the service ends, I reflect and wait for the line to get thin. When I arrive, the minister and I can have a brief, relief chat and I share my thoughts.

I'm a 'fallen' Catholic, so the Pope, for me, is just some OWD in an interesting outfit - albeit one who gets a gold star for church attendance....and knows more Latin than I do.
    HOWEVER (comma!)

    .....if it's a "mass," is it a "minister?" ;)

People at my church would sit in the back, older people usually, because the new music groups were too d… loud. I liked it in the back, not the last row that’s a little extreme, one or two rows in. Or late people sat there. Then there are bathroom issues. Going up front in the middle haveva good bladder or prepare to be going across the second row in front saying excuse me.

... so, go right ahead, be my guest, you tell me how, pie-in-the-sky, 15 million votes magically appear, 2020, then no explanation whatsoever, poof-gone, vanish into thin air, 2024?

... for those of you experiencing anxiety, angst, consternation, difficulty coping with recent current events, I would like to take initiative, reaching out to you, in your desperate time of need, with reassurance what you're experiencing --- certainly nothing to be ashamed about.

I feel a sense of responsibility, pointing out to you the 5 stages of grief you will experience over the course of the next few weeks, a consequence of current events:

    1). Shock; denial -
    2). rage; anger -
    3). bargaining (what ifs? shoula-could have-would have)
    4). depression -
    5). finally, acceptance; reconciliation -

So, chin up, people, here at the Prius Chat. You're good enough! You're smart enough! And, gosh darned it? People really, really like you! The information superhighway is a tremendous resource I would encourage you to take full advantage, in your time of need!

    Heh-heh!
