I wish we were on a bargain shared-hosting plan. We are currently on a dedicated server with only 4 active domains on it (PriusChat being the largest). It costs a lot of money considering that PC is a free, not fee, based membership site, but the bottleneck is definitely the software.

But, like I said, we'll be fixing that soon.

There have certainly been times when the site has been struggling. I think most of us have experienced that at one time or another. If I hadn't already been hooked, maybe I would have given up too. Hard to say. The tone of his email makes me think its no big loss

As it is, I am really grateful to those who keep this site on the air and free.

Fast or slow what difference does it make. The wealth of information, and advice, available here more than make up for a little "down" time!

Am I your arch nemesis? I never realized that. How can I be your arch nemesis when I can't even pronounce your screen name? :)

I remember when PC was a dozen dixie cups connected with string. (Well, almost.) Ever upward.

I've noticed it slows from time to time, but then, I've run webservers in the past on a 14.4k modem connection (my present server runs on my DSL connection). So I'm pretty patient with this site, and it's helped me out quit a bit. Sad some people can't be more patient.

How ironic, my speed seems fine, I just don't have much to contribute.

A fast connection to the Internet makes little difference with a site like PC, unless you happen to be looking at a post with lots of photos. Text goes pretty fast, even on a dial-up connection. PC, like most BB systems, use a collection of server side scripts and a database to build pages on the fly. This puts a lot of load on the server and often doesn't scale easily. Another problem with database applications is that they often require a lot of attention from an administrator. When they go south, you have to kick them and prod them with a stick to get them going again. Sometimes server applications require a restart, which is a pain on a shared server.

I've noticed that sometimes the entire page loads (whether fast or slowly) but the browser indicates that it is still loading, or waiting for more stuff, and that can go on a long while. When that happens I click on Stop. But I've wondered what it's all about, and speculated that maybe it's waiting for an outside ad server. But I really don't know.

That is why you cannot tell just how slow this site can get at times. I am on a T1 connection and several times each day it literally takes minutes for pages to load.

I have to agree about this being a very slow server. I have a fast computer and 5meg internet service. It is the slowest site that I am a member of. I live in the United States and this site acts as if it is on the other side of the world.

yes you are my arch nemesis as somehow my opinions are complete opposite of yours. But that is what makes this community so great as I think generally all of us do respect each others comments and realize everyone is entitled to their opinions. I also thought I'd help you out with pronouncing my SN: mor-fe-us-x :)
