    Depends on region.

Central Atlantic is now $4000 on base and $5000 on Adv.

CA is now $1000. Looks like North East, NJ the deal is gone.

Between the BS with the gas lines and the use of the car as a generator, I'm darn happy I bought it when I did. :D
It was all a roll of the dice.

Maybe they just over estimated demand on the coastal states. I am not a marketing professional but you could offer the remaining inventory to emerging markets in the heartland. With the incentives it was a no brainer for me.

That's funny if I put in my old zip (South Jersey) no deal except 0%.
If I put in North Jersey they say 0% + $4000 subvention cash...whatever that is.
I wish South Jersey would have succeeded from North Jersey when we had the chance.

My real zip in North VA now gives me no deal except 0%

South Jersey is probably tied to Philadelphia instead of the NYC region, thus the difference.
Subvention cash just means that it's applied as a down payment toward the loan and not as a "cash" incentive to lower the purchase price of the vehicle. It's been that way since day 1.

Are both treated the same for sales tax purposes?

who are the "both" in question?
as far as I can tell, because the purchase price of the car on the installment contract does NOT include the subvention cash discount, you're going to end up paying sales tax on the pre-rebate amount. But someone mentioned in an earlier post that their state was using the post-rebate value for tax purposes.

the "both" was "subvention cash" and "cash incentive". I have always struggled with paying sales tax on an amount that is in reality more than the actual sale price. Manufacturer rebates that you receive after the sale pose the same problem.

Yeah. So, for example, in my case, I had the dealer discount the car by 2,500, which reduced the tax liability, and then TFS applied 2,000 as a down payment on the loan, which didn't reduce the tax liability. I'm not sure if this is standard TFS practice or if this is just for the PiP or if other manufacturers do it differently.

Jonas we need to know what state you are from (consider add to your profile).
Green sticker is free CA HOV access which is very important to some PiP owners.

Commuter lane access in California. Gets me to work half an hour faster.

The cash back with the TFS 0% financing offer actually went down by $500 in SoCal. Now it's only $1,000. I guess Toyota feels like the 2012's will move out no problem here.

I'm seeing more and more every day on the Car Pool lane with the green Sticker & around town in Southern California. Prius is the #1 best selling car in California. PIP is gathering momentum. The tax credit is $2,500 Federal and $1,500 Cal State. Remember you have to pay that in Taxes to get it back. Politics says that the Fiscal Cliff is a reality in January and there may be a possible tax increase in 2013 so waiting until January may be a good move if you believe Obama will let the Bush Tax Cuts expire.

Yep. If I get this job that I just spoke to an agency about, the commute will be brutal. The distance would be so-so if there weren't traffic (about 38 miles, one way), but if I have to go in during rush hour, it will SUCK w/o HOV stickers. From having to go part of that route before during rush hour, I'd guess it'd be 1.5 hours to 2 hours, one way w/o HOV stickers. :(

If I get and take that job, I will probably buy a PiP and sell my regular Prius, just because of the HOV sticker time savings. Hope everything falls into place and the incentives still exist, if that happens.

Makes sense get home faster to be with family. Also if your car is 7 years old a new car may be a nice touch and you can get good value i assume on a trade or private sale of your existing car, attractive Federal and State tax relief, a dealer discount and attractive financing. This may be a good time.

Could the Fiscal Cliff also mean the elimination of tax credit?

I did not hear that but one never knows. It seems Obama likes the clean energy concept and may protect it.
