    Godiva,
    thanks for your answers.

Actually, my questions had a lot to do with the limit of 75,000. When you re-apply in those cases (selling, damaged, stolen, etc.), do you get priority or you don't?

The key seems to be whether there is a number on the sticker. If yes, the number will tie you to the sticker.

That assumes everyone with a qualifying hybrid will want a sticker and will know about the opportunity to get a sticker. If I didn't drive on the freeway or if I didn't use a freeway with a carpool lane, then I wouldn't want four of those ugly things on my car. Does anyone know how many qualifying hybrids were sold in the last 6 months?

Also, what's to stop people from ordering "replacement" stickers and then just holding on to them and selling them on ebay when the 75k limit is reached? Or if I order a second Prius in 8 months and the limit's been reached, what's to stop me from ordering a "replacement" sticker and putting it on my second Prius?

    EricK,
I just posted several questions, which I don't the answers to. I think no one has the answers now unless one works for CA and has inside info...

Therefore, I am entertaining a hypothesis here.
    ....
A sticker will come with a number on it (00001-75000). The sticker is associated with your VIN/license plate in DMV computer. When you sell or damage your car with stickers or if the car is stolen, you don't AUTOMATICALLY get a new sticker even if you apply (assuming the 75000 limit is reached) for one.
Under this scenario, your questions are answered. It would be a fraud to sell your stickers online since it would be no difference from selling a license plate... However, under the same hypothesis, used Prius with stickers would have added value on the market. Someone may pay premium for it if one needs HOV lanes day-in and day-out.

Does anyone know the demesion of the sticker?

Do you think I would get a ticket if I put the stickers on the rear window and back windows, instead of bumper and quarter panel?

I don't feel good about putting stickers on the body. :(

A suggestion has been made to put the sticker onto some clear bra material. That way you wouldn't damage the paint. Of course, that would make it easier for someone to steal it.

Well, I was thinking of putting clear bra material over it to make it harder to steal.

I wonder how bad a 'bra sandwich' would look.

A bra sadwhich would look great. :iagree :partytime:

Probably more easy to steal if the bra material is removable in one piece.

At the PriusClub San Diego meeting today, someone suggested putting the side stickers on magnetic sign material and then just putting them on the quarter panels when you're going to drive in the HOV lanes and then taking them off when you park.

Too much hassle for me. I'd forget to lock them up and someone would steal them.

The California Prii clubs are going to band together to write the DMV in Sacramento and ask if we can place the stickers on the rear triangular windows instead of on the paint. We'll see how that goes.

    Actually . . . that was. :p

I have several very high ranking state worker friends, plus I live in Sacramento. If I weren’t self employed, I’d be jealous of state workers’ benefit packages. Amongst other things, I think they get every conceivable holiday off . . . and then they get to make up a few of their own . . . plus sick days galore. The pay scales are good and job security and retirement are outstanding.
    - - - - So there you are, standing in a DMV office, being treated like cattle, made to feel like your presence there is nothing more than a problem which is interfering with more important work - and heaven forbid, the possibility of interfering with their next mandatory break. When you finally make it to the counter, you are treated with disdain and, because you are on the wrong side of the counter, a snobbish attitude, because you weren’t smart enough or lucky enough to land a cushy state job. - And all the while you think to yourself, “so this is how my tax money is spent.â€

The private sector could do many government jobs better, faster, and cheaper. (We’ll see just how long it takes to get our “clean air†stickers.)

Man, the DMV in Sacramento must really stink! The DMV in Santa Monica is great. The wait times are never THAT long and the people behind the counter are always super friendly and nice. I usually fill out the little "comment card" each time I go saying how great the employees are. Maybe I'm just lucky and each time I go and I get someone who actually cares and is friendly...

The one on Broadway does . . . and it is only 2.25 miles from the DMV headquarters building . . . go figure.

I have never been in there where it wasn't packed and the wait time was over a half hour. 15 minutes if you have an appointment.

Needless to say, I try my best not to visit that DMV office in person, but when they screw-up the paperwork as often as they do (three out of the last five registrations!), you have no choice but have a face to face with the manager several times if you want the problem fixed.

Normally "time will fix it" is their answer. But when that does not correct the problem, then it becomes "well, it's been several weeks, so now it will take a few weeks for us to locate and pull the records." :x

I seriously wonder if they have a quota of mistakes to create as a form of job security. "SEE, there are all these mistakes. Proof that we need more employees and to be paid much more."

So why couldn't they do an online "clean air" sticker registration? Probably because it would save time, money, and the need to hire a few more employees!

I saw a car with some of the diamond lane stickers a few months ago. The stickers were HUGE! About a foot across! I thought they were gawdawful ugly at the time.

A foot across? That is ridiculous! Does anyone know where to get the magnetic sign material? What about the plastic bumpers - any ideas for a removable one? Also, anyone else have a front end mask? Yet another problem. :cussing: :guns: politicians

I saw a Honda Civic (Natural gas) with the stickers on Hwy 80. Sticker wasn't foot long. Since both of us was on freeway, I couldn't get the exact measurmenets. However, I estimated that it was about 3x6 in size.

Stickers were actually white in color, rather than yellow. He put them on his bumpers and quarter pannels. It didn't look too bad, I think.

It was small enought that it would fit on the bottom portion of the rear windshield. Also it might fit on the gas door.

WOW!!! Talk about driving in electric stealth mode. Nobody would ever suspect this fine piece of engineering of being able to be stealthy. :p

(Ooh, and look at the rear quarter panel for an idea of the size of the “clean air vehicle†decal . . . the car almost stole the thunder of the reason for this post. )

    Hi All,

I think it might just be time for a reality check here. There is NO WAY that these stickers will be "a foot across" unless you measure distance in dog feet like some measure time in dog years. A vehicle registration sticker is only barely 1" x 2" and the CNG diamond sticker is at the most 3" from end to end.

This is how rumors get started and I would have sworn that we here at PriusChat were above that sort of thing.

Will they be larger than a dime, yes certainly. But will they be larger than a dinner plate? Not bloody likely. Remember if you will, that our esteemed Governor is currently scrounging for every spare penny he can find (anyone want to sit by Arnie while watching the Rolling Stones?) and that reflective sticker material ain't cheap.

Also, I truly doubt that the point of making this offering to vehicles like ours was not to humiliate the driver but rather to reward them. I prefer to look at the golden color as emblematic of the prize this offering is both to the owner/driver of the car and to the environments where the car will be driven.

Perhaps a bit less grousing about how it will mar the paint job at removal (that is what products like DeSolvIt and Goo Gone are good for preventing) and a little more gratitude that this is even being offered might be in order here.

If folks are truly this concerned about how this will mar their vehicle's appearance then they should save their eight bucks and eliminate the possibility that they will have to deal at all with the potential problem.

I for one am very grateful that they finally went ahead and signed this into law and will proudly display the stickers (whatever their final size may be) that I have earned the right to use by virtue of my prudent purchase of this car over any other.

I shall now step down from my soapbox and put on my trash bag armor to protect my clothes from the rotten fruit that I am sure will be winging its way in my direction soon.

Take care all & have a terrific day!

Actually, it’s looking more and more like the old adage of, “Let no good deed go unpunished.†:x

(Tisza, you may have missed my post just above yours as you posted just three minutes after I did . . . and I think your post took at least that long to compose.
