The only truck we've ever owned was a full size '81 Ford. It was actually cheaper for us to buy the truck for a cross country move (with a rented trailer in tow) than to rent a moving van. I never experienced the truck love you guys speak of. Maybe if it had been a Toyota.... ?
2003 Dodge RAM 2500 Cummins 4WD Crew Cab for hauling the boat/camping trailer/brush/Boy Scouts/etc. I keep it because it's paid for and only has 100k on it!
My daily driver for 12 years was a GMC S-15. It was a decent vehicle and very useful for hauling stuff. I used it and U-Haul trailers to move a move 150 miles in 2002. We moved a house full of stuff and a lot of yard and garage goodies too. The truck ran in the low 20 mpg range, about twice as much fuel as my Prius.
I wouldn't mind building another classic truck, actually enjoy that sort of work. Was thinking of a '67 Chevy Cheyenne. Nothing exotic, just a basic 350 crate motor, crate TH400 tranny, maybe a Dynatrac Pro60 rear with Detroit Locker. I'd keep the interior as simple as possible, just would make sure to have a Vintage Air system. Most likely such a truck would see a 100 miles a year, maybe less.
I like the look of older trucks - say late thirties to early fifties - but I don't think I'd want to own one. Or build one, though I used to think hot rods were pretty cool.
I loved my '49 Ford PU... tilt front/283 chevy... I may do that again... well... maybe I'll help my son to build one, he's starting to thing cars & trucks more than 2wheelers now...
