I sat in a 2010 Prius, but didn't drive one.
Though I am not ready (but able and willing) to "pull the trigger" just yet.
Do you think I could get away with going to a dealer a taking a test drive without the sales pitch...and would it hurt my chances of going back at a later date to negotiate a price?

Don't be sad- plenty of big people lead a very happy, healthy life. And, a trophy IS a trophy! EVERYONE is unique. However, if you are uncomfortable with your size or if it is effecting your health you might want to consider your options. :cheer2:

"Without a sales pitch"??? Unlikely ever for any dealership of any type of car!!!

However, you have a secret weapon. When you visit a dealership YOU are in control. Don't EVER forget that. YOU can just turn around and walk away without even giving them a reason. YOU can ask for whatever you want. If they say "No"...then you walk away. When dealing with sales people, play by their rules. Cut them off. Don't let them get a word in edgewise. Tell them you're NOT here to buy today, but gathering information for a new car purchase in the very near future and you can't put the Prius into that list unless you test drive one.

I test drove one before I bought...it was a Sandy Beach G3. The sales manager was there that day, he was the ONLY salesman at the dealership- I arrived just as they were opening. So, he let me take it for a spin all by myself without driving along with me or without collecting ANY info on me.

Just remember YOU call the shots. If you're not comfortable doing that, just pretend you are someone else- like an actor playing a part- and step outside your normal skin...you'll never see them again for any reason other than service- so who cares if you make a good impression on him or not!!! It's all about YOU!!!

It always amazed me that the weight capacity of the Prius was a paltry 600lbs ... yet with my body weight being 220-ish pounds and cargo, I made one trip recently, almost 1/2 way across the length of California with 1,245 lbs in the car. I do NOT recommend it
    ;)

that said neilz, your can can handle it.

Yeah it would because if you have test driven a Prius some time the salesman no longer wants his commission.:confused::confused:

I think the capacity of the 2010 is more than 600. I think it is like 825. I'm 5'10 and 235 lbs and my husband is 6'2" and around 300...that 825 limit is easily reached if I toss a couple of other adults in the back seat!

Test driving a car (to decide what you want) and buying a car (test driving/checking out your car, negotiating price) are two separate processes to be done on different days.

After test driving a car, just say - 'I'm checking out some other brands also, I'll let you know when ready, c ya'.

If you really want to try a Prius, a lot, without any salesperson involved, simply rent one for a day. $43 for a day is not much, about .17% the cost of a new Prius II.

    total person + cargo capacity of 04 - 09 = 810 lbs.

    for 2010 : 825 lbs.
