Greed greed greed. Something for nothing. Suing for a normal up and down of life. Ugh.

Yes, Tideland was right. It's the American way, unfortunately. A country that has to put everything in terms of dollars and where everyone is looking to get rich quick. Disgusting. My cousins in Denmark said the cases brought to court here would be thrown out immediately by a Danish judge and the attorney who tried to waste the court's time would be fined or held in contempt.

It's called life. Deal with it.

ski.dive, I haven't gotten your offer for the 2010, I can understand if you've changed your mind. What package is the '08? How much do you want for that one?

Is this a normal up and down of life? Really? When was the last time your previous car company had such problems? Last year? Every year before that?
No, tires wear out, that is normal life consequences.

Yes, a few years ago GM had the roll over issues and yes, they were also sued for loss of value.Unfortunately customers received only a voucher to buy another GM car.

The OP doesn't want to sue for the mere fact that Toyota has problems, s/he wants to sue because s/he wants money to compensate for loss of value of their car. Those are two completely different reasons. No one ever gave them a guarantee their car would hold their value. If next year a new technology comes along that renders the Prius less valuable, what then? Class action lawsuit? No, tough luck. Same thing here. That is what the normal ups and downs of life are.

Are people suing because their stocks crash due to the idiocy of people running that company? Suing isn't the answer to everything. It's rarely the answer to anything when it's purpose is solely to obtain money (unless you've been incapacitated and cannot earn any income but that's an entirely different situation).

Totally agree here, this is a case of greed, and what can I get for nothing. This has so become the American way, and people wonder why we are viewed in such a negative light.

A friend of mine bought a brand new Corvette and then decided he didn't want it any longer (got it out of his system). He took such a beating and loss on that car it wasn't even funny.

To these people that think they are going to get something for nothing, good luck. You really think Toyota's legal department is that stupid? I'd suggest you bring your extremely documented vehicle history depicting how your 'loss' in vehicle value is due to something other than 'normal automobile depreciation'.

At the rate I drive my '05 Prius - in two months I'll break 100,000 miles. I have yet to experience an UAE (Unintended Accelerator Event). I would love to know who has experienced a drop in value because I can't afford a second Prius, yet. Too expensive. I'm looking for a red '05-'09 Prius for less than $9,000, AND hasn't been in an accident. So far, nothing in NY, MI, OH, IN, IL, or PA. So much for loss of value - if this is true, I'm not finding it.

Prius values are rising again after the Toyota press conference. Time to send Toyota another check for increased value.

Duffer, I agree on your approach. However did the CEO of Enron say the same thing when he was sent to jail. Toyota had plenty of information back starting in 2005 that said they were having problems with their various line of vehicles. They started a cover up, the records will show this. The records will show that their bottom line was the guiding light that moved them to conceal their problems. If a class action law suite would go before a jury, believe me the overwhelming evidence will show that there was a cause of diminished value. This entire problem is caused by Corporate Greed from the top on down. How many times have we seen this in the past twenty years. Toyota will be realling from this for many years to come. I feel that my Prius has sufffered from a diminished value and Toyota should pay for their greed not me.

A CEO has a duty to provide accurate information on the state of the company to shareholders. An auto manufacturer has no duty to support resale value.

Don't due Toyota, sue the media! They're responsible for any loss of value.

I see this is your first post. :welcome: to PriusChat!
It's too bad that your first post had to be around something such as this.

While I hear what you are saying (to some degree) what 'PriusSport' and 'Armature' are saying is probably allot more on track.

There are allot of factors here, and we have the 'all knowing media' (insert sarcasm here) just making things worse, and for what, a story...

I'm just really not happy with what our world has become, it's greed everywhere you turn.

And unless people are bringing their Prius' into dealerships and being offered trade in money, that is significantly different than what it would have been without all of these hyped up stories, it's just more greed in people looking to get something for nothing.

Just out of curiosity, what were you offered for your Prius when you brought it in to make a trade on something?

I'd actually like to see what people are being offered for their Prius' at trade in, that is so significantly different than if non of this ever happened.

Evidently Politburo, You have never stepped into a court of law. Why do you think Toyota is setting aside several billions of dollars for their future exposure. Believe me they don't wish to go into court, they will settle outside a jury award for deminished value. And yes the CEO is responsible, he and all his lieutenants, when fraud is present it starts at the top and goes down, this is why there is a case of deminished value. I don't own stock in Toyota, I own a Prius.

PriusSport, You need to talk to Politburo, he seems to know about stock value and the Board of Directors. It has not been out of the oridinary for top executives to be sued for their bad handling of a public company and it's demise, it has happened. I don't think it will happen to the Executives of GM, they just cleaned out their desk and took their millions of dollars with them and OH I almost forgot, our Government picked up the mess and bailed the company out with our tax dollars.

That brings another thought to mind, mabe if Toyota bottoms up our Government will bail them out, we sure don't wish for Japan to have to print that much money, it would cause them to much harm financially.
