A lot of this crap sounds like a guy that buys a custom made suit then 6 months later gains 30 lbs and wants to sue the suit maker that the suit doesn't fit anymore.
That damn tailor screwed me my suit doesn't fit.

Custom suit, law suit. I'm starting to understand the parallel.

I haven't read all 7 pages, and this may have already been mentioned, but it hasn't even been proven that Toyota was at fault. The media is going so overboard with this, and every litigation happy person is coming out of the woodwork to take "their" share.

Maybe it's the MEDIA'S FAULT values are dropping!

One could also look at it this way (I am): it's a GREAT time to upgrade and get a newer Prius!

LOL didn't some cattle organization sue Opera for comments? The media goes overboard on anything that helps move paper, articles and produces clicks. Sure why not. It's interesting stuff. People love to bring down the king sooner or later.

This is idiotic and frivolous. Even if this becomes class action and is won. What will that do for the owners? net them 100 bucks? There is no guarantee of value. Value is subjective and can change at a whim. Shouldn't people who bought houses and then the values went down, sue their towns?

The only expectation you have when leaving the dealership is that the car is safe to drive. If a judge agrees that Toyota based on the recent safety "issues" knowingly caused a negative value drop due to safety... then that's the way the cookie crumbles and toyota needs to suck it up.

As a side note: doe sanyone laugh a little when they see a commercial that has toyota's slogan "moving forward"? I chuckle a little and say that's the problem! :)

Toyota actually likes the class action lawsuit because Toyota will be glad to settle out of court by giving each Toyota owner a $500 coupon towards the purchase of a new and improved Toyota.
BTW, the lawyers will get their fees in lure of the coupons.

If this ever actually made it to court, it's not like it's going to happen over night. The legal system is quite slow! It could take 6-12 months just to go to court, then at least as long to deal with appeals etc....

Much, much more than $10k. One of my friends won a whistle blower lawsuit and won 24 million dollars. By the time she split it with the other plaintiff, paid the lawyers, and paid taxes, she had less than 2 million left, closer to $1 million.

Yes, not to mention after all that time has passed waiting for a lawsuit to (hopefully win in your favor) finish, your car's value will have dropped naturally over time anyway.

First of all, this sounds like a troll.

I have seen no noticeable decline in Prius prices--used and new--in our search for a new hybrid for my wife. In fact, the better deals on a new hybrid are to be found with the Honda Insight--not the Prius.

If anybody should be sued, it is the media idiots and politicans who have perpetrated what appears to be a hoax designed to promote the US car industry. Toyota has complied , apparently, for PR reasons.

Not all the media are idiots, by the way. Car and Driver ,in their current issue, tested the Camry extensively vs other cars for braking under hard acceleration--and the Camry came out better. They found no problems. And Consumer Reports has been taking data on Toyotas--including the Prius-- for years from its readers and has found Toyota to be the leader in reliability--along with Honda. That's a well-known given in the car industry--based on what I've heard from an auto engineer at Ford.

So , it's all a bunch of political BS. There has been no loss in value--but if you want to sue, sue the media and the pols. Fat chance.

Are you serious, or is this some kind of bad joke? Sueing a car maker for some bogus "loss of value", because of some media frenzy? Man, that's only possible at your side of the pond. I admire US for many things, but this is not one of them. You would get laughed away if you tried to fill a suit like that here in Europe.

Get a life, dude. Or next time, you would be sueing God allmighty for the lightning that struck your house. Or what about sueing McDonalds because you lost your own value by becoming fat because of eating all the crap they sell?

You would do a much better thing if you sued your own Wall Street bankers for the loss of value of your own stocks! Did you ever think of that?

The US would be better off if people were doing some *real work* instead of employing gazzilions of useless lawyers because of bogus lawsuits, flying around like bullets.

I have to confess that the recent attitude of so many Americans makes me sad. Please don't take me wrong - I have a strong passion for that country and I have many friends and relatives over there. And that's why I'm sad. I always admired the American spirit, the "we can do it" attitude, the courage to undertake bold endeavours we, eldery Europeans, would never dare. But the spirit of pioneers and engineers seems to be lost nowadays. People, listen to yourself! You are the nation which brought the humanity to the Moon! But nowadays, so many people seem to be unable to accept some basic responsibility for their own doings, and expect somebody else to guide them and bear the responsibility for them, as if they were children.

Do you think that Neil Armstrong would call 911 if he had a runaway car? Do you think that Gene Kranz would fill a lawsuit if he spilled hot coffe in his lap? Would Richard Feynmann put a cat in a microwave? Where would you be if your pioneering ancestors behaved like that?

Please, stop doing crap like that, stop filling stupid lawsuits and stop trying to outsource your whole lifes to somebody else! Accept your *own* responsibility, do some *real* work and take care of yourself and the world around you!

I have to apologize for this post. Perhaps I am too rude and my reaction is inappropriate, but I really had to vent all the frustration with behaviour like that I feel for some time...

I think I agree with you. I remember when I was a child looking in awe at America, the space race, skyscrapers, colour tv, computers, the life style, fully loaded big cars, disneyland etc. But what do I think of America now - Probably law suits and the movies.

You only have to look at Asia these days to see how much it has changed in the last 10 years. Remember how you imagined the future would look when you were a child and now think of Tokyo or Beijing. Where are the tallest buildings being built these days? Where are most technological breakthroughs happening? Was it GM or VW who invented the hybrid and brought it to market or was it an Asian company and why was that?

Is America now experiencing what England did in the 1930s as its empire slipped away? This is a bit deep for me to explain but I think you get the picture?

Unfortunately it is true. There are lawsuits:

Owners' class-action lawsuits could cost Toyota $3B - Salt Lake Tribune

It is also true, there is loss of value but its small:

Toyota faces new threat as car values plummet in US - Press & Journal

There was also news on the local TV (DC 4) saying about $500 or so dollar value drop on used Prius and people having trouble selling them.

Values should recover within a few months. Also I predict that due to increases in Asian oil consumption and decreases in Mexican and other production that gas is going to go up well over $3 for summer increasing values further.

If anyone wins in these lawsuits it will be the lawyers. If one is successful the class members will get almost nothing.

I used to have nice full head of curly hair. Could break a comb in it it was so thick! You want to talk about losses ... look it me now:eek:. I'm pretty sure it happened just after I moved to this country ... or did it happen when I took my current job. Never mind sue them both! Can you have your shark (sorry lawyer) take my case?
