Higher octane doesn't always equate to better performance. Ethanol also attracts moisture and reduces the lubricating qualities of motor oil. Ethanol is documented to shorten small engine lifespan. Regardless, it's proving to not be the energy savior as advertised by it lobbyist's.

I hate getting gas in OR. I always fill up in WA if possible. When traveling to CA or ID I just fill up before leaving home & I can drive all the way through OR without filling up. :D

But after you add the cost to use your debit card do you really save money? I always pay with my credit card to get my points & I pay my credit card off every month.

But it attracts moisture & has less energy then gasoline so it hurts your mpg. Ethanol should be banned IMO.

I was filling up my work truck with diesel the other night & a truck driver that was filling the tanks at the Chevron came up to me. I asked him some questions & he said that the gas is different that he delivers to the different stations. The Chevron, BP, Shell get very different additive packages compared to the generic stations.

I always get out of my car. I use the time to move around. When I fill up my work truck with diesel I can pump my own diesel in OR. I've lived in WA for 22 years now & I was hoping a long time ago that OR would catch up with the rest of the country & let you pump your own gas. I'm still waiting.

It's funny to watch OR drivers in WA trying to fill up their car & don't know how to operate the gas pump. I've helped many of them over the years. ;)

What about those many recent advertisements about having eliminated that debit card fee?

... though the ads don't mention that most of the stations are now charging $0.10/gallon extra to use a credit card.

It wasn't so funny when an OR gas pump operator walked past my fuel cover then tried to yank my license off. Or another who set my gas cap down in a pool of water. Or another who clicked-clicked-clicked-clicked the pump handle until gas gushed out all over the side of the car, after I told him not to do so. At least the legislature has now prohibited that stunt.

I've never put anything in my car except Shell 87 octane gas. Every 5K miles I'll pour in a bottle of concentrated Techron fuel additive to get things cleaned out in the event that anything is gunked up.

I know what the consequences of ethanol use are. I also know that it eats lines that aren't made to use it. Where did I say anything other than it increases octane?

    Yes most of the time.

You can pump your own diesel and you can pump your own gas in your motorcycle ( not what this thread is about ).

You can, however, pump your own gas if you have a card lock card ( CFN or Pacific Pride ). And in a lot of the out of the way towns in central and eastern Oregon gas stations turn into card lock stations after hours with just regular credit cards.

I don't use a gas credit card either, I use my Amazon Visa so I get double points on gas purchases. I use it toward Amazon purchases like I just did on a Tanabe under brace & strut tower brace. I saved $82 on it, almost like getting the under chassis brace for free. :D
