I voted for Tokyo motor show. Assuming it goes into production in December '15 which is the last I heard it's supposed to be, an October unveiling looks right.

Yes, but the first unveiling of 3ed gen anywhere on the planet was at the Detroit auto show in mid January 2009. There was few photos of bit p arts in December and the leaked Blue man crew video in Dec., but the unveiling was only 4 months before it landed on Western US shores.
The press has last said a Dec. 2015 production start for 4th gen, so maybe it arrives in January '16 in US, so that would mean maybe Sept. '15 official unveil, and like for the 3rd gen, there will be no unveiling until it is unveiled. That's just how Toyota rolls.

When more real news comes out about 4th gen, every auto news source will have an article - Greencar Reports, Edmunds, Car and Driver, MotorTrend, Hybrid Cars, etc, etc...

I hope that Toyota is working on a future plug in Prius that can go 50 miles on 100% electricity, then when the gas motor kicks in 50 mpg
on regular gas. All wheel drive will be a big plus as well. So far the 2016 Volt is looking a lot better than the current plug in Prius, Toyota needs
to come up with a challenger.....

Maybe I can qualify the Frankfurt show vote: The first specs might be revealed there but of course they'll be international in nature. If I had another vote the full N. American spec'd Prius will probably be revealed at the North American International Auto Show.

Sorry, I thought I had the "allow multiple selections" checked. You should be able to vote for another show now :)

Thanks, Tideland, I'll stick with my original Frankfurt vote. The title did say "Revealed" and the NAIAS will probably be EPA'd spec'd. Not exactly new just North Americanized a touch.

I'll half agree with this. I'd want AWD definitely. I think it'll help with a couple of issues, one efficiency and the other traction in winter weather. But yeah I wouldn't want a normal Prius after my PiP. I'd wait and see if the new PiP is worth an upgrade. I wouldn't mind waiting 6 months over their initial delay if they could incorporate AWD and SiC electronics. With the upgraded ICE, AWD, and SiC electronics could be the differentiators from a Volt or Energie with extraordinary efficiency.

September reveal makes complete sense: 3 months ahead of first production, 4 months ahead of delivery here, just like in 2009.

Yes, months ago, journalists were saying production would start in Dec '15 and we all know it takes a month for the boat to arrive from Japan.

Well it was delayed by 6 months. If they were planning a summer release similar to the 3rd Gen (May 2009), that would put it near the end of 2015 or possibly beginning of 2016.

I don't see the Volt as being a direct challenger. Price is a big differentiator. $34.5K vs $25K is a no brainer (I can't take advantage of tax breaks). For me personally 10 Cu Ft of cargo space in the Volt vs 20 in the Prius is a killer. We already run out of cargo space in our Gen II. The Volt isn't even on my radar screen. We love our Prius and it has been 100% reliable.

If Toyota will please kill the flying buttress (reason I didn't go Gen III), bring the gauges back to center on the driver, and bump up the mileage to 55mpg I'll be ordering one as soon as I can. Our's has 144K miles on it and will be pushing 160K by the end of the year I'll want a new one.

Ummm, hello peoples, this PCer provided a link to article that claims the gen 4 Prius will be unveiled at the Frankfurt show in September '15. This is the first claim of unveiling I know about.

Hasn't this gotten anyone else's attention. Is this article's claim true?

"(Toyota) is gearing up for a major launch at September’s Frankfurt motor show – the all-new Priushybrid."

Im not sure if its true of course. Just wanted to share because it seemed credible and sensible but I haven't been able to confirm this via other sources yet.

I know this for sure: since it wasn't the Chicago Auto Show, I won't be there when it happens.

...I believe you are correct that Prius is much more roomy for cargo. However, how they calc 20+ still escapes me. Around 2010 the US went with a new cargo spec called EPA Cargo Space, so that allowed showing 20+ Gen3 vs. 14.4-16.0 in a Gen2. The new spec seems less useful for comparing. I think when Gen3 came out Toyota said it was about 1-ft3 more than Gen2 in the rear, so not much actual difference. Sometimes I like to look at foreign country cargo specs to get a better idea.

it is actually 22 cuf on Gen3 vs 16 on Gen2

what escapes me that "C" is rated at 17cuf, and the size of the trunk is ~half of Gen3.

I suspect they have nothing to show.
It is not uncommon for mfg to show design "concept" and Mazda could get by with just showing Miata's platform, but in case of Gen4 they probably can't even do that. Why? b/c they frantically trying to make over looks, and they ran into serious issues with TNGA.
