wheels to fit prius

I just had new tires mounted on those rims this morning , on a take-off set acquired last month. It will be my new summer set, once the OEMs are worn to my minimums, probably late this summer. Then the old rims will get real winter tires.

 

I want to get a second set of rims, so that I would have a set for my
summer tires and a set for my winter tires. Then I would only need
to remount the tires when I buy new tires.

I was told that the tire pressure system ( TPS ) would need to be
reprogrammed, which would cost as much as just changing the
tires on the rims I have.

Has anyone figured out how to reprogram TPS sensors on the wheels?

There are clonable TPMS sensors, so they could be programmed to match your other set. Then, no seasonal reprogramming.

But I don't have these. Instead, with two TPMS cars now in the household, I broke down and bought the tools, one to program the car over OBDII, and the other to read the sensors over RF.

These tools are (or were) sufficiently expensive that you should look for alternatives, such as the clonable sensors, or a tire shop that will always reprogram the car for free (Discount Tire?). For a one car household, the first tool may be justifiable, be sure to get the printed sensor numbers from the seller (hopefully on the packaging) at purchase time. Or use the TPMS-OBDII tool to read the sensors' IDs from the car's ECU, pay once to reprogram to the other set, then read out the other set's IDs. For a single car, this will be much cheaper than buying the RF sensor reader.

 

I just didn't bother with TPMS with our snows. Think it's not mandatory up here, yet.

 

My local Toyota dealer was kind enough to reprogram my TPMS at no cost since they had to hook up the Techstream to do the alignment. It was very nice of them.
