What's with all the bad writing?

Grammar has been on the decline since the 1960s ? With the number of immigrants we get a year it is impossible to teach everyone an impossible lanuage to learn. I mean both my parents were born overseas, and when my mom leaves me a note, this is what it says,"Son call me when you live" (think spanish accent) and yes i am italian. So my 2 cents is that we inherited a crappy lanuage we are doing it justice by changing it, I mean if we hadnt, we would all be speaking like, "o where art my romeo" & "Ole English", if we want to know what real english is like, talk to a brit( i love the women's sexy accent ) Im sure they call us yanks when they hear us.

And another thing, people think faster than than type, so some words are missed here and there, but how is it we managed when writing with pencils ? Maybe we were forced to slow down?

I'm not sure who 'they' are, but I read hebrew with vowels just fine, so they seem to exist. While it is true that the torah is classicly written without vowels, as in modern daily hebrew, vowels exist and are used to write foreign words, in poetry, and the torah printed in books. Or by anybody who wants to. BTW, modern hebrew is written un-voweled as a convenience; I, like most others find it a nuisance that slows down my reading, although exceptions do exist as above.

The torah may be forceful, but it has nothing to do with vowels, or lack thereof. If I have to choose only one, give me content over grammar any day. Admittedly, I prefer brilliant prose, but grammaticaly correct ignorance is still only ignorance.

Eric,

I think that Bob's mis-impression that Hebrew has no vowels is due to the fact that, with the exception of a few consonants that are used to denote vowels, Hebrew vowels consist mostly of symbols such as dots and dashes.

"sipping freeze dried orangutan dung mixed with 3 day old bat excrement with a touch of sugar from the canes of New Orleans sewers and all the whiles calling it yummy lemonade because its yellow and has a strange sour taste while sweet at the same time while wishing thier good buddy Gore was the man with the plan."

Can anyone beat that?

There is something to be said for form and content in concert. I'll throw in as a hebrew reader myself, I'm lost without the vowels...

Concision is the essence of good writing, hence "form follows function". Better? (note the nifty alliteration). And it is not original. I'm not that smart.

By the way, is there a difference between "concision" and "conciseness"? In a nutshell, no.

Translation: "

Do you think the Democractic Party of today resembles the Democractic Party of the 1940's-1960's? Neither does the Republican Party. It metamorphosed from a party of isolation and weak defense into a party with [unclear] beliefs that have propelled it into power. In the same way, the Democrats lost power because of their [unclear] current set of beliefs. If the dems do not win big by re-inventing themselves, how can they win?

Note the vacuity of "current set of beliefs", the spelling errors, the incoherence of "does it was that metamorphasis" and the rambling structure. This is a good example of semiliterate writing.
