What's the lowest MPG you've ever seen?

Sensible female Prius driver here.
I had mine for only two weeks, have a 200 miles or so commute (both ways)... Lowest was 47, highest 59.1. I noticed that I get higher mileage on my way back, warmer temp... I'm assuming.

 

My lifetime ave is right around 40 after 60K Klm

I drive with jackrabbit starts, and am usually the person passing in the left lane or in the pack of cars going 90mph to 100mph on the interstate. The Prius stays in the 45mpg range without even trying. As soon as I get back to town and try a little bit, it shoots up to 55mpg. This is in a hilly and pretty cold region too.

The only way to get in the 35mpg range is if you are putting around town and the engine is always on. Could be maximum heat request from the engine or something like that, but if the engine is always on something is wrong and you will get that low of mileage.

 

I live in Michigan and we have a lot of hills around here. I get 60 mpg going 65 mph, 55 mpg going 70 mph during the summer. Once in a while I drive down to Chicago where the environment is all leveled my mpg slightly increase. Last time I was in Chicago I was going 75-80 mph averaging 50-60 mpg. I'm guessing where you live is a big factor on how well your gas mileage will be. Although I did replace my air filter with a K&N and mpg boosted up 2-3 mpg. As for people who get 35 mpg I'm assuming they are stepping the pedal to the metal and not driving in eco mode. They probably don't care about their mpg. The only time I get that kind of gas mileage is when I go 90+ mph on the freeway.

Care a lot but can't prevent the morning traffic going up a long hill lasting for miles almost every morning.
Do have an average of 40 MPG after 3+ years and 61K Klm 37k miles

 

I don't know exactly what my worst mileage ever was, but it had to be around 42 mpg. I have to say, though, that being a resident of a small town in WI, where it gets very cold, the driving distances are often short, and often with snow on the roads, for much of the year the Prius is not any more fuel efficient than my previous car (I had a 2005 Honda Civic HX, which always got at least 40 mpg, and often got in the mid to upper 40's, even in WI winters). From about December until May, I rarely average above 45 mpg in the Prius (even though the dash always inaccurately reports numbers much higher than that!)--and that's with the grill blocked and trying very hard to combine trips and drive efficiently.

 

I just filled up my first tank...the guage said 48.4 MPG ave, but Fuelly says 45.5. I'm depressed!

 

Anything above 40mpg isn't worthy for this thread..

On my rental I had, 37-38mpg.

 

37 with my 17's and city driving aggressively.

 

The car always reads 2-3 MPG high.

My first two tanks were in that range too. Then I got the hang of when to pulse and glide and fast down hill to build the speed for up hill and I've been near the 50's or more ever since

 

The car's displayed MPG's are around 5 - 6% optimistic, this is not unique to your car.

You will see better fuel mileage as the weather warms and as you get familiar with the car.

 

Spidey, don't feel like the Lone Ranger. My wife doesn't get it either. She's all for owning a Prius (our new 2013 is our 2nd Prius, having traded in our 2007), but she's not into learning how to drive it economically. ALWAYS when I drive it, the MPG average goes up if she has been driving, and when she drives, it goes down. It's a sore spot with us. I wish the computer kept separate MPG averages for two drivers. If the car suggested she lighten up, she might. I can't even bring up the subject.

 

Just got back from vacation, trip was 1558.4 miles round trip from Arab, AL to Plano, TX. Worst tank was during an awful storm with speed ranging from 40 to 75 on I20 and was 40.56 mpg. Overall trip average was 46.64. Most driving was speed limit plus 3 mph. I love this cars fuel economy. I expected a bigger FE hit at 70+ mph.

 

I've had only 38 before driving into a driving south wind going 75 - 80 the whole trip with 4 adults and totally packed with luggage on our way to a cruise ship.

Do you drive west in the morning? I'm guessing prevaling wind direction in addition to the temperature.

 

That is a good Idea driver #1 and driver #2 Maybe 3 and 4 just in case sons & daughters.

 

what are you asking ??? over a tank? a block ?? And if that any comfort, my wife also detrimental to MPG if she drives ...

Over 23 tanks so far, lowest tank avg was 46.9, during January, when it was often below zero F in the morning, and rarely above freezing. This made for good X-Country skiing!

 

most likely but could also be due to topography ... the difference is just a little bit too much for only temp but 200 miles commute each way my GOD !!!! You do need the prius ... 1000 miles a week driving ... let us know how your car holds up ...
