I was on the road and needed coolant ASAP this summer when I drove to Miami, I noticed I ran out within 8 hours of driving so I bought a commercial one and its green but turns pink after a day. Now is this the same coolant used for the inverter reservoir.

You have reanimated a thread which died in 2005, so it is likely that most participants are long gone.

SLLC is used in both. I am sorry you used the wrong fluid.

if you're running out of coolant, you need to take it to toyota to find the leak. they can then flush it and refill with correct coolant. same with inverter.

I'm not understanding your description completely. Were your coolant reservoirs just getting low, and you topped them up? Or was there a more serious loss?

It's not good to mix coolants, best to stick with the recommended Toyota fluid: "Toyota Super Long Life Coolant". This is typically available at US dealerships in 50/50 premix with water, no need to dilute. It's a pink colour.

If you've just mixed in a few ounces of another type I think you'll be ok, but best to stick with Toyota's coolant. And maybe before too long get (both) circuit's fluids changed.

To directly answer your question: the same coolant is used in both circuits, engine and inverter.

Thank you! And yes I think the problem was minimal. I had never placed coolant in so I guess it took time to sink in since I didng understand how that unit worked I thought it had all been used once I checked after 8 hours of driving but maybe it just took time for the coolant to sink in.
