Also, which states emissions standard is the same as Cali so we won't have a problem registering the car?

Also, doesn't this require us to pay a lot of things twice? Like a New Jersey state license and title fee and then when you bring it to Cali, new registration fees, taxes etc?!
    Anyone have insight on this?

    Sticker price is:
    $40,577 for the 2012
    $40,614 for the 2013

I guess that I would get a better price back east, but since I'm not financing I won't benefit as much.

No, you would pay tax for your residence location, not for the purchase location.
You wouldn't lic the car in New Jersey. If you're financing, you would get the CA reg price from the CA DMV website and then the deal would write you a check for that amount.
You *would* have to pay to ship the car here. Other people have done it and saved more money than the cost of shipping, easily. Almost all states meet the CARB requirements, there is a post here somewhere listing them all.

Just talked to a dealer in MD who confirmed that I can only get the additional $5k discount if I am using TFS.

All Prius models are 50-state vehicles so the emissions is a non-issue
No, you don't pay anything twice, just need to calculate the CA reg fees on the DMV website ahead of time.
Many people, myself included, have done this. It just takes a little longer. You also remain eligible for the CVRP rebate.
    Cheers

    That's how it's always been.
There is no prepay penalty on the loan. You can also just invest the money in some CDs or money market accounts and pay out of that.

can you explain the 'figuring out the dmv fees ahead of time' bit? Only one dealer in New York has a blizzard pearl left, but their selling price to me is 34,859.
