What was your previous car?

Was driving a 2002 Prism which went to youngest daughter who was about to have a baby. She was driving a Chevy Cavalier which became part of the trade-in on my '04. Needless to say, it's hard to fit a baby seat in a Cavalier. Eventually she traded in the Prism for a Scion xA.

 

I was asked how well i liked my 2010 Prius when i had it in for the brake recall. I told the agent that it doesn’t hold a candle to my other cars: 74 Mercedes diesel, 85 Mercedes turbo-diesel, and 99 supercharged gasoline c-class (was able to get 31.5 mpg on a trip). I also collected Corvair convertibles for fun.

 

Traded in my C230 for the Prius. I actually kind of miss my German junk, especially it's panoramic sunroof but I don't miss the massive repair bills. Here's a pic of them saying hello, and goodbye, at the dealership.

 

2000 Toyota Avalon. Not a bad car actually, and is definitely a lot more roomier in the back than the Prius. But I am glad I got the Prius; almost doubled my MPG.

Worst car: a 73 VEGA. Enough said. Previous car: I owned a 1994 Saturn SL1... :mod:it went 210,000 miles with almost no issues and averaged 35 mpg! Great car. :cheer2:I always want to trade up in gas mileage, and I love my Prius for many reasons.

 

2007 Toyota Tundra - Great Truck but lots of times in the shop and the gas mileage was right at 13/gal. My 2010 Prius is getting over 50 as long as it is warm and ~48 when it is cold. Found I could pull our travel trailer with my wife's 4Runner and now all is well. Very happy with the Prius.

 

I came from an '03 Acura RSX, type S. Never a problem with it in ~120k mi, and it always beat the (pre 2008. even) EPA estimates, by a lot. I'd routinely get 37-39 mpg on a long trip (though it did want premium). Average tank mileage was around 30. The only reason I ditched it was my worsening back problems made it extremely painful to get into such a low car with low roofline. Still miss it though, especially the MT. But I'm generally happy with the Prius (getting 50-54mpg tank mileage, and expect that to improve wit warm weather if winter ever ends in the Mid Atlantic this year...).

Requirement for any car for me: must be hatchback. And, yes, every one I've ever owned has been my only car, so it has to be relaible and, to some extent, a compromise.

 

When I worked at a body shop, we bought 2 Corvairs.
One was rear-ended, the other was a head-on. Cut them in two right behind the top of the wind shield and welded the good parts together. Alignment was a little tricky, but it worked! Fun car to drive. Thanks for the memories.

 

Really it was a great car, built solidly, great performance and mileage on the highway. Mileage in the city was not so good, and that's where I do most of my driving.
The worst thing about Mercedes is the continual warning and service lights. I had a standard 6 speed, and if you stalled the car a "Battery/Alternator - Visit Workshop" warning would come up and could not be reset without going to the dealer. The first time this happened the mechanic (not at a Mercedes dealership) tricked me into thinking I needed a new alternator which cost me $1400 for replacement. The couple times I stalled the car after that I just took it to the dealer and got them to turn off the warning. Every time I went in for a mandatory service with oil change, it would usually cost over a $1000, even with nothing wrong with the car. I think the cheapest I ever escaped from there was $650 for a standard routine service.
I definitely learned that you're paying for the name when you own a Mercedes, and despite them being beautiful cars, I don't think I'll buy one again unless for some reason I have tons of money I feel like throwing away!

 

Unfortunately I bought the car just as it's warranty was running out and I made the mistake of thinking an independent repair shop specializing in German cars would be cheaper. Found out later that my costs for service went down considerably when I took it to Mercedes. I spent way more money on maintenance on that car in the couple years I had it than all of the other cars I've ever had together, haha. Only spent $50 for service on the prius so far.

 

My previous car is a 2007 Saturn Ion III Coupe, I get about 28Mpg in average of 100 miles round trip to work (about 500 miles every week). I start to look into replace my Saturn when GM decided to shutdown Saturn last year. I narrow my new car options down to 3 very different range, 1. Toyota 2010 Prius, 2. Chevy Equinox 2010 3. Mini Cooper

I end up choose the 2010 Prius due to its best Mpg, safety and the Toyota Brand name. One week after I brought my Prius, Toyota start its massive recall. I was a bit upset with the news, I choose Toyota because of the reliability, safety and the reputation of the brand name, it came back and buzz me.

I love my Prius, I'm also worries about the future of Toyota with all the ongoing lawsuit and news... I hope Toyota can get all this resolved soon. I feel unfair for Toyota being targeted by the gov with most of the negative news and critics, all other manufacturer have similar problem at some point, there did not get pick... Ford Fusion Hybrid have similar software problem as Prius Gen III, I only see the news about Ford for a day of two, but for Prius, it go on and on. Seem like no one pick on Ford, why?

I have got about 3400 miles with my Prius up to now, I'm please on getting about 50 Mpg for my 100 miles daily commute to work.

When I make a choice to go with Prius, I know I took some kind of risk with the top and future technology, there is always some risk on being a pioneer, to discover and to help move the technology is never been a easy job... We all want to see a better and more efficient car for the future, we needed it for our planet... I feel good on being part of it to help reduce the emissions...

 

Yeah, it was tough to get rid of and I had put quite a bit of money in it but in the end, it was for the best.

 

To the detractors, there is no other car out there than the Prius with a bigger bulls-eye on its back. The Prius is indeed the face of the green movement and that has made it a target more so than any other hybrid or diesel. For those who aren't on board with the program, the Prius is the car they love to hate.

 

I'm about to purchase a Prius V by month's end, and I'll be coming from an '07 Acura TL Type-S. Will I miss the speed? Yes. Will I miss the frequent visits to the gas stations? Absolutely not! hehe...

 

Traded in our 2007 Prius and 2005 Prius on the 2010 Prius. Only one driver in the family now.

Previous to my 2007 Prius was a 2001 Prius.
