Aye, it's amazing what an education and a bit of caring for other's health and the security of our country will do to one's decision making process. lol

Up to 3 weeks ago I was the owner of a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid.
That changed when a pickup truck decided to sandwich me into an Accord.

You have no idea how close you were to describing us (although the cheap-rich bastards description was a little low). The Prius is the wife's commuter car. Our other two cars are a Lexus RX400h and a BMW 330Cic (my toy). BUT, your reasoning on why we bought the Prius is flawed. In the DC area, commuters get to use the HOV lanes with just one person because they're rated as SULEV's (super ultra low emission vehicles). That's why we bought the 2008 RX400h, a very nice hybrid SUV.

C4C came around and my wife suggested we trade our '94 Jeep on another hybrid. We didn't want another car as expensive as the Lexus and were looking for a Camry hybrid. There were no Camry's available anywhere and there was one Prius left on a local lot. C4C was a good deal for us.

We're not rich and we're not cheap. If the neighbors think we're being thrifty or "greener", that's OK, but it's not why we have two hybrids, it's to use the HOV lanes.

Do we like the fact that we get much better fuel economy and are being kinder to the environment? Absolutely! Do we like our hybrid cars? Definitely! The RX400h and Prius are two very different vehicles but we really like them both.

Previous cars - '99 Honda Civic EX coupe (daily driver), '06 Acura TSX sedan.

Needed another daily driver knowing that gas prices would likely rise again within the next 2-5 years.

Got the Prius III at invoice price, some port-installed accessories, no trade-in, no high interest rates, or other fishy deals, so to me it was "cheap". Great car, good handling, good mpg, great safety, good space with rear seats folded down. Out the door was $25k even.

Don't care if other people think I'm "green" or not - would prefer them not to think that in fact.

Mine was a 04 impala, and i loved everything about it but it need alot of major repairs, so i gave up on it at 70,000 miles and traded it in on the prius. The impala could get 35mpg on the highway and i got a lifetime of 27 mpg witch is good for a full size sedan with the large v6 with 200 horsepower.

My previous car was not a car. It was a motorcycle with a 1.52 liter, 6-cylinder engine with 6-carbureators. It was rated at 100 HP and did 0 – 60 MPH in 5 seconds flat. However, it averaged 38 MPG for the 88,742 miles I had it. Our 2010 Prius may not have the power and acceleration of the Valk, but it keeps us warm when it’s cold outside, cool when it’s hot outside, dry when it’s wet outside and averages over 50 MPG. Besides, I was having trouble holding up over 1,210 pounds of motorcycle, 2 passengers and luggage on 2 wheels.

Here is what I gave up.

I had a 2000 Toyota 4Runner that I bought new and put 305,000 miles on. It was an amazing car. I did not spend more than $1,000 in repairs over the 10 years I owned it.

I put my first and only set of front brakes on at 170,000 miles and never replaced the rear brakes. New spark plugs at 110,000 miles and 240,000 miles. Timing belt at 170,000 miles. Two starters and two mufflers I put on myself. The first one I paid for the second was free from Advanced Auto parts (starter and muffler).

I will get the same out of my 2010 Prius now with 20,000 miles. Anyone that buys and extended warranty on a Toyota is a fool. Here are some pic’s.

When I sold it it had 305,000. I got $4,500 for it.

Here are other pic's. These are the ones I put on Craigslist when I sold it.

holy crap! Aside from the wear & tear on the driver's seat and the leather-wrapped steering wheel, it doesn't look a day over 2 years old. Well done in keeping it in tip-top condition!

2002 MINI Cooper, 136,000 miles with almost all available comfort options available for that model, except Sunroof because bald gingers don't fancy sunburn noggins.
My Dealer offered me WAY over BlueBook. I could not refuse, so I traded it in Today for a IV Blizzard Pearl with :flame: Package. Love that 2.9% interest rate.

Tomorrow, when I take delivery, I'm going to have to learn to pilot a Tank, rather than a Go Cart

Hey Joe, I own a 2002 Torch Red Thunderbird and will always keep it too! Mine is in hibernation with a battery tender and I hope to take her out the beginning of April. Today was sunny and bright here in Illinois and 45 degrees and I was tempted but I know too well what the the weather can be like in March so I'll wait. Illni Bird is our "toy." You're on TBN, right?

We traded Sue's 2005 Prius for the 2010 and it is her daily driver. We love our 2010 Prius (loved the 2005 as well) but are very concerned about what is going on with Toyota and their problems with unintended acceleration. If we find out that they have been lying and trying to "stonewall," we'll never buy another Toyota product again (we've had three Toyotas and one Lexus).

I drive a 2003 Acura MDX and really like it and will probably replace it in about 2 years.

    Traded in my 2005 Maxima.
Tired of the gasoline bill and with the miles I put on my car every year it was time to get something more efficient.
Three of my good friends each bought a Prius and they all raved about how much they loved their new car so I borrowed one for the weekend and I was hooked.
At first my teenage daughter gave me grief for buying it but now 2 months later she always asks to borrow my car not my wife's. Ha!

I said to the sales guy: Here's the deal, I want so and so for my Boxster. The sales guy said, wait a minute, I'll be right back. In a minute, he came back and said, you got a deal. We just sold your Boxster. Life is simple.

He logged on to his bank to shuffle some money around so that he could buy your car.
