Now, if you'd had an extended warranty you'd be as little as $180 in the hole :_>

My most expensive repair to date has been to buy a used Goodyear Integrity tire for $25, then have it mounted and balanced for $12. I had a nail in one of my tires near the edge and it couldn't be patched, so I had to get a different (used) tire. Other than oil changes (about $32 every 5,000 miles) nothing else. My 2006 Prius is wonderful and I hope I don't jinx myself by writing this. I currently have 31,800 miles on it.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I did have to have one rear quarter panel repainted (but I didn't pay for it). A crazy ex-wife of one of my friends keyed my car because she thought it was a car of someone he is dating. Talk about crazy!

I went looking for information on CV joints and found this thread. I have something to add, so I'm going to revive it.

My last 'most expensive repair' has been blown out of the water by a $2,000 bill for two front axles with cv joints. I had complained about a ticking-noise-while-turning to the local dealer over a year ago, but they trimmed a piece of plastic and sent me on my way. For that and other reasons, I'm now having my car serviced elsewhere. I seem to remember asking another dealer about the noise even earlier, but they couldn't hear anything and said it was fine. I will have to check my records to see if that was documented.

I've been a Prius fanboy for a long time, but I think that may be changing.

For a 2006 base Prius with 98K miles:
Except for tires, battery and normal routine maintenance items for things that wear out (oil filter, air filter, coolant changes, wiper blades etc) I haven't had any repairs. This is my first Toyota and I'm loving it! :)

How much of that was labor? :(

My most expensive repair was a burned out tailight bulb which hit me for $.89.

Just like the skeptics said, all my repairs have been battery related:

Fob battery in year 4 of ownership: About $2
12v battery in year 4 ownership: About $180

    ;)

That might illustrate an example when it is better to tow the car to the junkyard than to fix it if you have to pay dealer repair prices.

    Most expensive repair?

Resurface front rotors ($110) because they were rusted and pitted from lack of use.

$85 for the replacement visor. Two screws and one connector handled while replacing it.

Eh... if we're counting battery replacement as a repair, then $160 for an Optima.

Was ethanol use part of the reason of those repairs?

158,000 miles in 4-1/2 yrs. Nothing. .... not caused by outside forces like deer, stones and other drivers. Yes like others I have replaced all the normal wear items several times but I consider the fob battery ( $2 ) and the 12v battery ( $150 ) to be wear items.

I'm due for a major maintenance now since I haven't replaced the plugs yet and I think that the strut caps are chattering.
