Hmm...I think it should be Gen 2 drivetrain with Gen 3 updates since it used the 1NZ-FXE from the Gen 2 as the hybrid engine. It did have the updates from the Gen 3 such as the exhaust heat recovery system and cooled exhaust gas recirculation system. The battery was also smaller (< 1kWh IIRC... vs. 1.3kWh for the Gen 3.. both NiMH).

Toyota Prius Stalling Problems Continue, Highlighted by a Dealer’s Lawsuit over Five-Year Problem

Reporting on courtroom testimony from Toyota executives, the Times said as many as 20,000 Prius owners have reported electric powertrain failures since the recall was issued in February 2014. At that time, Toyota recalled nearly 700,000 cars from 2010 to 2014 model years for inverter transistors that could fail and shut the whole car down while driving. Toyota expanded this recall in July 2015 to include another 109,000 Prius V models, then released another recall for all of these cars in October 2018. Each involved software updates that were supposed to place the cars in limp-home mode if they detected a power failure. But the lawsuit alleges this hasn't been working as Toyota intended, and according to the Times, Toyota is expanding the recall again to include 2018 Prius models.

The Times said Hogan and NHTSA officials met at least six times last summer. While complaints like Hogan's can compel NHTSA to launch investigations and audits into ongoing recalls to determine if a remedy is working, there is no such case open as of this time. The Prius C is not included in this recall.

The dealer complaining has a beef with Toyota. Toyota has asserted that his son is not qualified to be the GM of a Toyota dealership.

    Cum grano salis.

how can there be a recall the media knows about, but no one can find?

most online articles are just quoting the times.

some say the 2018 models are prius c.

Maybe a different recall, but here's a more primary source. Toyota Canada announced 2018 Prius C recall for the DC converter last week:

i could be wrong, but if gen4's were involved, i'd think someone would have mentioned it by now.

The first clue should be that the title of the article mentions "Five-Year Problem." Although Toyota did do a recall about the car having little power output when the battery was full and getting off the line.

There is a PRIUS c recall here - announced over a week ago - this is TOYOTA AUSTRALIA NEWSROOM - not the press:

I get suspicious when there is a lawsuit in relation to what seems to have started as a personal matter (son not being Manager) and then it moves to what looks like a vendetta.

Reading PriusChat for 3½ years, firstly lurking on both Gen 3 and Gen 4 - and what I've read doesn't tally with what the LA Times reported was in the courtcase.

No, the inverter with converter assembly for the fourth-generation Prius was newly developed; see Kitazawa, O., Kikuchi, T., Nakashima, M., Tomita, Y. et al., “Development of Power Control Unit for Compact-Class Vehicle,” SAE Int. J. Alt. Power. 5(2):2016, doi:10.4271/2016-01-1227. Its major specifications, given in the New Car Features books (more info), are also different from those of the inverter for the Prius c; for example, the rated voltage (inverter side) for the boost converter is 600 V for the former but 520 V for the latter.
