5 minutes every 70 miles? I'm sorry but even my bladder is bigger than that. My last hybrid fill-up showed 509 miles of range and I had at least 50 miles beyond that if I was desperate.

For 90% of my trips, 100 would be fine. But I need a comfortable 150 miles in the worst cold wet weather to get to the family and back. 2% of my trips and probably 30% of my miles are of the 250 miles or longer variety at 70 MPH.

Power out, no gas pumps, no charging, what do you want to be driving? Been through hurricanes and tornadoes where that mattered.

My next will be an EV as a second car, right now two hybrids are far more anxiety reducing to this old fart.

One nice thing about the ionic 5 is you can backfeed your house from its traction pack. Inexplicably, the u.s. gets a version that is much more low powered compared to the European community's back-feed feature.

Right now, they’re Electrify America chargers (both 350kW and 150kW chargers are 800V).

The Ioniq 5/EV6/GV60 will charge at 400V chargers (every other DCFC) as the car’s onboard charger will step up the voltage to 800V before feeding through battery. My understanding is that it’ll max out the power (all else being equal). That means, in Canada, I can choose to charge at Petro Canada’s 200kW/400V chargers or Electrify Canada’s 350kW/800V chargers. (Petro Can is cheaper owing to the lower output so could be worth it even if it takes an extra 5 mins). Unlike the US, we have two companies rolling out DCFCs (and that’s not counting BC and Quebec’s own network but those are lower powered - 50-150kW).

Note that the 150kW 400V option is an optional extra on a Taycan. (Standard is 50kW/400V or 240kW/800V)

The benefit of 800V charging is sustained high speed (IOW, higher average charging speed). This means 18 mins for 210 miles (10-80%).

You’re spending “only” 3 mins more in one session for the same distance as 3 sessions of 5 mins.

Yes. Heat pumps are available but final NA specs are not so we don’t know if they’ll be standard or optional or not available (like VW’s ID.4 in the US).

Hyundai/Kia say with the heat pump, you can achieve 80% of the stated range at -7°C as you would at 25°C.

Or, whatever you achieve at 25°C, you’ll be able to get 80% of that at -7°C.

Thanks. Well, there are total of two Electrify America chargers in state of Maine now. Nothing more is coming soon. If the worst case scenario EV range of Ioniq 5/EV6/GV60 is only 127miles, I would not even get a halfway to the nearest charge station. That confirms my conviction that a BEV is still not for any type of road trip for me... Not yet anyway.

Wow. Maine really is desperately needing charging stations. These are 200kW and higher but even dropping the limit to 120kW and higher doesn’t change the map by much.

We’ll have to see. The Ioniq 5 is boxy. The EV6 is more slippery (Cd of 0.28). Also getting the RWD and 19” rims will aid in range. (The video test was AWD right? Can’t remember if it had 20” rims or not). Lastly, the European spec Ioniq 5s have a 72kWh battery. US spec versions will have 77.4kWh.

maybe not when you think about population and urban vs rural.

the key to bevs is getting them mobile in and around urban area's, then slowly spreading out charging to highways, then by ways

The charge station in NB is closer to me than one in Portland. I better have the passport with me. LOL

My guess is because of the different grid specifications. Aren't most EU homes getting 240V three phase?

It’s like us crossing the border to get cheap gas on your side lol.

Except that right now, he can, but you can't. Though I suspect that the time and hassle of getting a covid test just to cross the border greatly outweighs any benefit of getting to that fast charger.
