What I don't like about the 2016 Prius

Ahhh - I'd suspect my old Samsung Galaxy S2 wouldn't be compatible anyway - it won't talk to the auto-charger, I know.

 

It requires Android 5.0, so the oldest Samsung model that would support it would be the Galaxy S4. And, Qi charging support was also added in that model.

Unfortunately words that are not positive with sugar on top are I find translated as negatives more often than not, especially in this day and age. In essence as the legendary ( LOL) G.Bush Jr once said," you are either with us or against us. " no middle ground , in or out attitude.

I can't speak for others, but my comments were for the record critical and to the point. I'd still rate the vehicle at least an 8/10 for quality over all. Plus the brand makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside in respect to its stella reputation of reliability and a long heritage of quality vehicles produced.

From my point of view, I hope I have clarified my position as a Prius lover and not a hater. Like I said in a past post, this vehicle made me change my perception about hybrids. To me , it's almost a normal car first then hybrid. I wouldn't go as far to say it's fun to drive but one definitely looks forward to driving it. Once doing so , one can keep driving it until the gas runs dry and still not get bored.

The sunroof and wind noise on door glazing are still issues , but none worth the hassle of taking back to the dealer for "warranty" work. I funnily don't have an issue with road noise nor engine drive train noises. Although some would argue wind noise would fall into that category. Like I said putting a rag over the front quarter glass from the inside silences the wind noise somewhat, infact just placing the rag near it does also ,probably the same for all the other quarter windows on this car.

Thank you sir, and you are absolutely correct. I apologize if my "tight nuts" comment sounded vulgar.

And I also thank Frederickdawg, for bringing to our attention his import discovery of loose nut(s)...
His information prompted me to inspect my nuts (and bolts) and thankfully I found them to be good and tight.

There's nothing worse than a sloppy assembly man who doesn't tighten our nuts!

 

Ironic that my dog rarely whines - far less frequently than people here, and it's usually about something actually important like a dog-friend she wants to greet.

 

It shouldn't be LOL. The parking break cable should be under little to no tension when released. Hence why that bracket that holds the end of the cable is slack and the nut lose there when parking brake is disabled.
Looseness appears normal and I think only used to adjust cable slack. It's the design .

Thanks Frederickdawg. Seriously, I like hearing your reports. Some people may think we "whine" or "gripe" but it's good to pass on mechanical information, and any flaws we may find. The Gen4 Prius is a totally new and redesigned vehicle. New owners should give it a thorough inspection.

I wish I had rented a 2016 for a week, before buying. I've never driven or owned a Prius prior to this.

Me? Well, it sure wasn't for "environmental reasons." Here's the long answer...

Everybody in my family has owned Toyotas. And I've owned three Toyota's in the past... a 1989 4X4 V6 Tacoma truck; a 1995 4cyl Camry; and a 2005 V6 Camry.

I finally got tired of only getting 17 miles per gallon! I was just looking to get a good, reliable, low-maintenance, smaller economy car for my retirement years. I looked at Hyundai and Honda, but I didn't fit well in those. I looked at the new Corolla, and I really liked it. The price was right and I thought the seats were great. But I held off, and wanted to see the new Gen4 Prius that I kept hearing so much about.

The Prius seemed to have the most headroom / legroom for my tall heavy body... plus the window sticker said it gets 54 mpg... What's not to like? I decided to pay an extra 4 grand (over the Corolla) and get the Prius. I'm really not "into" or all that interested in the fancy Hybrid technology... and I'd be happy with just 40 mpg! Again, I just wanted a reliable, low-maintenance economy vehicle. (10k oil change intervals are great!)

I drive my Prius like a regular car, and I'm not even watching or charting the gas mileage anymore.

I'm very happy with it. Noise, and all...

 

Ah, I see. And for me, it's what will keep my car on the road and/or avoid killing cyclists/pedestrians at night. To each their own, I guess.

 

"noise and all" : It is all relative. My Two Eco is the quietest car I have owned. That said I do tend to like basic cars. My 2000 Corolla was the quietest car of my four cars, but it pales compared to the Prius. If the pavement is new and not coarse, I am impressed with the low noise level at 65-75. My neighborhood has brand new pavement, and at sub 25mph the Toyo tires are the only sound I hear. I am judging the tires to be noisy. I'd also guess Toyota neglected tire well sound proofing. I will be shopping for a quieter LRR tire when the time comes. Quiet tires (by Tire Rack crowd sourced reviews) made the Corolla far more livable as its OEM tires produced thunderous road noise at highway speeds on coarse surfaces.

I wonder if spraying a couple coats of that black rust protectant rubbery stuff might help out somewhat.

I like the Toyo tires for the smoothness... and it's not a bad handling tire for being an OEM 15" tire. But on coarse pavement, and at highway speeds the noise ( to me) is brutal.

 

Come for a ride in my Corolla, even with quiet tires (Michelin Defenders), it is easily louder than the '16 Prius on coarse pavement.

 

Wife's Prius has those Cambodia tires.

Next time your driving at 50 or over listen to the area near the front quarter window. Then with one hand place a rag gently over the horizontal area of said quarter window. Now it's a Lexus !

Take a look in there first. The front likely have a lot of plastic lining. The rear may have this thick paper-like lining. The latter was used on some third gen.
