Davep, please check the codes... it's more likely that you intended to report P3191 and P3190. You seem to be on the right path by cleaning the MAF sensor and the the throttle body throat/butterfly assembly. A tank of premium ethanol-free gasoline, plus (if available) a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner, should clear out most fuel system problems. Take a nice long drive, windows down, enjoy the spring/summer air, and enjoy your Prius once the codes are cleared.
Now I am having more problems. this is my 1st and last Toyota. pretty much hasn't ran since I brought it home from buying it. I pulled the codes this morning. I cleaned the throttle body with tb cleaner and the maf with MAF cleaner. I get it all back together and crank it up it idles but has no throttle response.( because of the dead/removed battery and the tpms losing power and reseting) I back it out of my driveway and pull forward and it wont pull at all. then lowdly shuts down. now it wont do anything except turn over once an stop. Now my master battery malfunction light is on, just the middle lamp not the car warning light.my display showed charging the HV battery and running the engine but will not move at all. It shows between 40-50% charge on the HV and with a voltmeter 12.9vs on the aux. has plenty of coolant/oil has 3/4tank of gas. and now no engine codes.
It sounds like time for a tow truck and professional help. Or get a service manual, avoid using reverse and diagnose the problem, your main HV battery may have an issue as well, which would require a grid charge or some other intervention. “You can also put the car in "inspection mode" to force the gasoline engine to run at all times. When the car is IG-ON (not READY) and the gearshift is in P, fully depress the accelerator pedal two times. Then shift to N and fully depress the accelerator pedal 2x. Then shift to P and fully depress the accelerator pedal 2x. ” Remember though if you do the above and the engine has major issues you could do more damage. When I had a car stall with a clunk once I examined and found the end of a brand new spark plug broken off inside, all sorts of things can happen but you have to tear in to isolate and fix each issue. Good Luck
I will try the inspection mode and see whats going on. I went out this morning and tried to start it. Now im back at my original problem with the engine no start and the gearbox running to start the car. I am going to check the fuel pressure tomoro and see if thats part of the problem.i do know the engine runs just rough.
Davep, I think I agree with the earlier poster... with this being a "new" kind of car for you, and you having limited diagnostic resources, it may make sense to tow to the dealer / mechanic of your choice & get professional assistance. Have you done everything to rule out that it's not a fuel quality / water-in-the-fuel issue? Getting pro help: I've done that a couple times; it's no shame to recognize that a problem may require more skill than you (or this board) can command on short notice. GenI Prius owners suffer from pioneer syndrome: they're identifiable by the arrows in their bodies. Whatever your decision, I wish you good fortune.
