What Did You Do To Your Gen II Today?

I added a stock roof rack a few months ago. It is aerodynamic and has no noticeable wind noise. I just adjusted it today. I am going to put my long roof carrier on it for long trips.

Also, a few weeks ago added two more 12 volt accessories. I had tapped into the fuse box power supply under the knee kick panel. I placed them in the center floor cover. I drilled out the cover to install them. The one in the middle only comes on with ignition power through a relay. The one on the left is constant for when the car is off. That was done so I can charge my cell phone while I am away from the car, or use my laptop while the car is off. If you look closely at the accessory socket, some of you will recognize these plugs as being Toyota Stock products. They are both from a 2000 Toyota 4Runner! They are difficult to install, but worth it.

 

"Fixed" the lip

 

Put red LED s on the bottom lights, I seem more noticeable on the roads.

Also lowered my tire pressure from 40s to 37 front and 35 rear.

I gained a few MPG from flat 40 to 41 or so.

 

A couple of weeks ago I dropped mine from 40 front, 38 rear to 37 and 35 as well. It made a noticable difference in lowered road noise and it seems to be a touch smoother ride. No new mpg figures yet but even if it hurts 1 or 2 mpg my wife and I are willing to trade the mpg for the improved comfort.

 

Well for me it improved I got 1 or 2 mpg improvement.

Right now it's 41.5 highway mix.

The ride was much harsher with higher psi especially with the front clunking even though I replaced the struts.

Even speed delivery I feel not push the car as often and coast whenever possible by loosening my foot off the gas.

 

if you're driving easy around here and only getting 41 mpg, how old is your 12v battery first, and what brand of tires are you running? I get 45 in winter with snow tires and 50 summer with LRR ecopias.

 

Ah usually I drive pretty hard sometimes lol so probably won't see 45 unless I'm super easy on the gas all the time.

The other problem I have is hills I travel from and to on 95 south corridor in the quantico area and the hills kill me as I de accelerate from
75 - 70 on the cruise control then go back up again.

It's annoying for the traffic behind me, but I'm trying to not push the car to hard.

My battery is made in 2015 I just checked it the other day and its running fine.

I might blame the tires though there pretty crappie no name tires when I first bought it.

 

Past 2 weeks some changes.

1. Blind spot mirrors, safe to pass between traffic, especially the driver side.

2. Bluetooth kit so convenient and less clutter from the aux cable and charger, comes with the ground loop isolator.

3. Strut bar - car is so well balanced now and doesn't flop like a fish in corners lol

4. Fog light - this was a PITA especially wiring them to the interior and dash. But a friend and I got it in

I remove the bumper even though it wasn't necessary because of one of the bulbs fell and I needed to remove that one bolt in so I can access the headlight easier. Plus the wiring loop needs to be zip tied to the car.

 

I replaced my interior mirror today. The socket part of the ball-and-socket joint was cracked, so the mirror would flop around like a fish every time I hit a bump. Took a minute to figure out how to get the OE mirror off - it attaches to the windshield "button" in a slightly different fashion than any I'd previously removed.

$6 at the junkyard for a mirror out of a Camry that attaches to the "button" with a good, old-fashioned set screw.

 

Nice, did you have to trim any plastic to get the switch in the dash?

 

Plasti dip the stock wheels. Used 2 cans

Looks fresh then curb rash wheels.

 

No no trimming required the blank switch spot just popped out lol

 

A few things done over the past few weeks.

1. Cleaned the battery fan which was filthy.

2. Got my tints 35 front and 20s in the back.

3. Got my window vents installed cut down slight more noise from the drivers side surprisingly.

And finally achieving higher mpg at 44+ on half a tank.

 

Tune up day! Looks like I might be the first owner to ever replace the plugs, clean the throttle body and MAF

Did a hella supertone on the gen 3

 

Been testing it for weeks now, but I removed the secondary air filter glued to the airbox.

Now my car has achieved much much better mileage even driving a little hard I'm still at 45.

Plus it introduced a bit of sound once I step on the gas lol

Getting the car ready for a long trip--family of four driving to Calgary, Alberta (from Michigan) then onward to Moab, Utah.
Cheap Ebay roof rack, already had the roof carrier from Sears, Harbor Freight trailer and my Yamaha TW200 dual sport bike. The car has just under 250,000 Miles so amd a little concerned but have prepared to just rent a car on the road, if needed.
The car just got a full synthetic for high mileage car oil and tires have 40psi all the way around.

Are there guides anywhere on replacing the plugs (and what to replace them with? Model number/brands?), Cleaning the throttle body and MAF?
Are these simple for a DIYer?
I also probably need to check my HV fan too, I literally bought the car 2 months ago and haven't even checked any of these yet...

I was looking into doing this but with more of a silver colour. I'm so bad at prep though... Looks good! Black is the only colour car that suits black wheels IMO!

Where does the Ground Loop Isolator fit? I've seen it included in a few different kits but can't work out where it would actually fit into the circuit when installed?

 

Nothing as dramatic as some of the stuff here. My wife's '07 had a lot of sun fade on the spoiler. A little sanding, a little paint, and presto. I think the black looks better than the original. Now, to let it cure before cleaning off the finger prints and waxing it.
