What did you do to ur Gen III Prius today????

Today was a good day!!

I installed my fogs, chrome door handles, and cleaned out my battery cooling fan (didnt take pictures of this because I was so annoyed with all the little tabs I had to pull out and keep track off) Also almost finish my weeaboo sticker collection on the back of my window lol



- I have a new lip ready, just waiting for it to get painted.

 

Next on the list: headlights.

Anyone here successfully installed a portable thermoelectric cooler/warmer in their Prius?

Swapped my plug in rims with Prius Five rims from
my old Prius.

 

Depends what you mean by "installed" ... I have one, and if I'm going on a trip where I'll need it, I put it in the car and plug it in ....

The one I have only draws about 4 to 5 amps, so it is no problem to run in either existing cig-lighter "power" outlet. As it happens, I whacked the cig-lighter end off and put powerpole connectors on the end and plug it into an output of my aux-power distribution thingy, which lets it keep running for short periods if I shut the car off for a pit stop.

My experience with the whole TE cooler idea has been sort of meh. Turns out the cooling ability of a 4 to 5 amp TE cooler in midwestern summer (even with A/C on in the cabin) is sometimes not enough to reach or maintain safe fridge temperature in any length of time....

Where are you getting your interior LEDs from? I am planning on doing the same, but prices seem to have gone up everywhere since I did them last.

 

Tire rotation, and new (stock) fitting kit for the rear calipers. One kit includes the four stamped-metal guides (two each side of the car) that snap into the caliper bracket for the pad ears to slide in, and also the V-shaped springs that fit above the pads to spread them apart.

I'm at about 120,000 miles, in road-salting Indiana. The rotors are clean and smooth on both sides, the pads are fine and at just about 50% usable thickness now. The slide pins move easily and smoothly. But when I last checked, several months ago, I noticed the pad ears did not slide easily in the stamped guides. It looked like the original guides may have been shiny-plated metal originally, and rusted enough to roughen them up. So I ordered the fitting kit in time for the next tire rotation.

The guides in the new Toyota kit are not shiny on the side facing the pads, but black. I don't know if the coating is something like Teflon, but it reminds me of that. The pads (even just the old pads reused) slide very smoothly in the new guides ... putting the caliper back on now takes both hands, one to squeeze the pads together, because the V-springs on top easily spread them apart. That definitely wasn't happening with the old, gunked-up guides.

Oddly, the guides on the front calipers seem to be in better shape; everything there still slides easily, so I just inspected and didn't replace anything.

I thought I'd be clever and use Invalid Mode to work on the brakes, instead of pulling the battery ground and then having to reset the clock and radio. For my cleverness, I ended up spending a few grumpy hours learning what DTC C1451 means. Next time I think I'll just pull the battery ground.
