The tow-hole cover from Russia should arrive on Monday.

But I think it's time to find a new body shop. This place I've been going to comes highly recommended. But I get the feeling they're all about production lining insurance company sponsored work. Custom work seems to make them uncomfortable.

The issue I've see is the body shops that do insurance collision repair typically don't do custom work.....anything not OEM. Just like what u explained, their uncomfortable doing anything outside their norm.

When I had my BMW 330i, 2001. I slide the guy $300 under the table on top of his insurance invoice and he did my work :). He painted my spoiler, roof spoiler, side molding and install. Anything that wasn't damage during an accident they usually don't. Especially when the fender isn't factory like filling the gap for the Prius logo. Missed the ride but not the 91 gas every time I fill up

I want to paint mine too eventually. Did you just mask the area and not take the calipers off?

I found a shop with high ratings on Yelp.com called "Pimp Ur Ride". This place has no problem doing custom work. I'm going to take it over there some time next week.

Have you tried Pann Auto in Kearny Mesa or Auto Fashion off Miramar? I haven't personally used them but a few friends get their mods done at those shops.

Thanks for the tip. Those locations are much more convenient for me also. I'll take a look.

There's nothing illegal or even shady about what you're doing. The insurance company pays you for damages. It's up to you to do what you want with that money. As long as the damage is legit, you could choose not to fix anything and keep the money. Just remember next time they won't pay for existing damage.

Most body shops that do insurance work won't do custom work, but I'm lucky enough to know one that does both really well. If you're on the East Coast I'd do a referral.
