Plasti Dipped my front and rear Toyota emblems, removed the Prius and HSD from rear. Trying to find a good way to plug the holes they left but I also might put the emblems back in place if I can't find a good solution. IMG_1621.JPG IMG_1615.JPG

Installed aluminum mesh behind my upper and lower grilles to protect the radiators from stone damage.

    Lower grille from the front:

Will get a pic tomorrow from the front. It was dark by the time I finished today and put everything back together.

:)Just a guess. Many times someone closes a trunk or hatchback, they have a set of keys in their hand. Could be a house key? One of our former hatchback cars had a similar scratch and and that's how if figured it happened. Second guess is that something was placed on it and got scratched removing it.

How did you anchor? I just received my mesh the other week. I was think of hot glue, but it looks like you may have used zip ties?

There is impact damage at the tip of it, so something had to hit it hard and then scratch the surface.

Maybe the hatch hit something on a low ceiling, a branch, or something, when opened? Very common.

Do you park in a garage? If you do, this is what might of happened. While parked in the garage with the garage door open and your trunk open...then you close the garage door while your trunk is open all the way...the long metal bar of the garage (the one near the chain thingy on top) will hit the wing on your trunk. I only say this because it happened to me. Looking at your pictures the scratch pattern is similar to mine and the tip of my wing was actually chipped a bit.

Yes, I used zip ties. Pic was taken before clipping the ends. Threaded them through the holes where the clips are located around the oem grilles. Main drawback is the zipties show from the front, around the edge of the bezel, which is why I used black zipties.

I'm thinking the zipties will deteriorate with time and the elements though. But the car is garaged and doesn't see much sun.

I ran over a semi truck's shed tire tread laying on it's side on the freeway the other week. It made a big bang and more commotion as it went under the car.

If you look good at the pic of the lower grille, the lower left vertical brace on the lowest two louvers is missing. The other one above it is cracked off the louver on one side as well.

I guess I got lucky that the damage wasn't as severe as your encounter previously. Also, that I didnt put the mesh on yet, because it might've messed it up.

If my car was lowered, the impact certainly would have caused more damage to the front end.

My GF does not park her car in a garage while at home, who knows what she does with it while at work. I'm pretty sure she parks outdoors though. I think someone else did the damage to her vehicle.

    Hi Davidsav,

A few times I almost inflicted a scratch like the one on your spoiler by accident; onto my car

For example, in my garage, there is very low ceilings so if I open my trunk, it will bang onto the ceiling of the "opened" garage door and may scratch. Also in a few public underground parking garages, the concrete ceilings are very low and the same thing can happen if one opens the trunk without taking into the consideration the car trunk swinging upwards. In one of my previous cars - a 2004 mazda 3 hatch, I left the hatch open in the garage and closed the garage door. The garage door arm connector scratched the entire trunk and ripped off the rear wiper. Costed me $400 worth of damages at the body shop.

Also, did anyone put any sort of box on the spoiler and then drag it off as opposed to lifting the box off? If the box has been on the floor, it could have picked up small rocks and being dragged off the spoiler may create a scratch like that...especially if the box was heavy.

Good luck.. maybe you can take this opportunity to upgrade to a carbon fiber spoiler:
Advan Carbon - The leading retailer of quality carbon fiber body kits, car body kits, rear spoilers.
