Ray's Forged lug nuts w/ locks. Not cheap for little pieces of bolts, but doing the best to keep everything on my car high quality and "made in Japan" :)

    My goodness they are lightweight.

Spent Friday night test fitting my new JDM wheels:

    DSC00037.jpg

New JDM wheels vs Prius Plus wheels. Which setup is lighter?

    DSC00009.jpg

17' forged w/ Toyo Proxes A20 weighing in at 38.4lbs.

    DSC00008.JPG

My setup weighing in also at 38.4lbs! How uncanny. I don't anticipate any MPG loss with the LRR Michelin's.

    DSC00041.1.jpg

After months of research on the internet, Priuschat and debating on colors/offsets/spokes, I am extremely happy with the setup. Ray's forged lug nuts give it the finishing touch.

    DSC00028.jpg

    Stock 50mm offset still OK.

Well, then. I got a $5 fundraiser car wash done today by some kids. Water spots and random application of Armor All included. They just think of everything! No pictures. You can imagine.

I also vacuumed it out and installed some new seat covers.

It took me a long time saving for that setup; and a lot of hard earned dollars too...plus lots of sleepless nights thinking about how it would look - It was not a breeze to arrive here! I hope the pictures help you and others out so that they don't have to go through what I did!

Seriously tho, good luck - I think you'll be pleased with the 18 inch setup we were chatting about!

Began first part of Operation Rodent Proofing the Prius.

Following ebsmythe's example in MouseProofing the Prius | PriusChat :
I decided to screen "from the outside" in order to keep the foam rubber flappy vents behind the screen, and realized I could do this by removing the rear bumper cover.

    bumper_cover_removed.jpg outvent_lh.jpg

Shot with vent cover insert removed
    outvent_rh_removed.jpg

    After screening..

    outvent_rh_screened.jpg
I'm using standard 1/4" galvanized steel hardware cloth for my screening material. Fasteners are stainless steel M10 x 1/2" self-tapping sheet metal screws with hex heads and largish stainless steel washers from Fastenal. (Forgot to take a pic of the screened LH side. The screen there is smaller but the idea was the same.)

Checked all spots first to ensure wouldn't be screwing into wiring or other obstructions.
    outvent_rh_screened_interior.jpg

There are L-shaped blocks of yellow-white foam attached to the inside of the plastic bumper cover, aligned along the
bottom and rear edges of these rectangular vents. At first, I thought, if I can't screen off the entire volume space encompassed by the rear bumper cover, perhaps I could at least screen around these foam blocks which would prevent rodents from harvesting it for nesting material. On the other hand, that's a lot more effort, especially to fit screening between both the cover and the chassis, just to protect foam I could probably buy and glue back on for less. Still, I dislike the thought of rodents there at all.

When I get the opportunity, the vent ports in the firewall of the engine compartment will be next, along with air intake. Also recall seeing a hole in the floor pan diagrams. It's supposed to have a cover, but if that's plastic or some other soft material, it could pose another potential ingress point. This should cover full exclusion, of the cabin area, at least. Am also thinking of doing the rustproofing spray as an additional deterrent. It sounds plausible since, although mice|rats aren't averse to touching grease, they probably don't like it if it's inedible and any petroleum scent from the spray would reinforce that.

Will probably look to the engine cover set, including cable connector covers. Unfortunately, there're still a vast amount of wiring running everywhere. Ideally, I'd like to be able to physically exclude off the entire car, including the engine compartment. Removing the bumper cover has demonstrated to me though that that entire volume of space that's "within the car" but outside the cabin itself doesn't really have much of a solid shell bounding it. The entire underside of the car is a mish mash of pieces of flexible plastic, some partially overlapping others, with occasional plastic fasteners. The flexibility's great for deflecting small pebble kickup from the road, but there're countless seems and ledges any rodent could easily squeeze through.

You can remove the headlight housing and shake the loose light out of the highbeam socket (remove 9005 highbeam bulb first). If you can't do that, then you can use one of those small parts grabbers that have a claw on the end and activated by pressing a plunger.

    Hi Michael,

I did the same thing. Easy fix:

    • Remove headlight bulb
    • Attach tape (sticky side out) to long zip tie or other bendable piece of plastic,
    • Reach in, fish around, stick to LED,
    • slowly remove LED! ;)
