My 2007 Touring Edition Prius replaces my 2004 Prius. I upgraded for [1] Renewed warranties; [2] Side airbags; [3] Better wheels and tires; [4] Leather interior; [5] Backup Camera; [6] Hi-res display; [7] Better suspension; [8] Tire pressure monitoring system; and [9] New Car SMELL - {inhale - smile}.
1991 Honda Civic Wagon, a great car which got 40mpg in the summer, which was purchased to replace my totalled 1988 Honda Civic DX Sedan which was rear ended. Dave
Well, we had two Honda Accords. Since I work in the home selling our software and my husband drives over the hill to work, he gets the better of the two cars. For quite a few years now, like 5 or 6, the old 1988 Lxi has just been draining us of money and patience. 580 dollars for this, 600 dollars for that, and it looked like hell after 18 years and no garage. The worst part was that it smelled of blow by and perhaps other leakage. People were commenting. It was basically becoming an embarassment, and I don't embarass easily. The final straw was when our new car -- actually it wasn't so new anymore -- broke down. We then had no cars and my husband had 300 miles per week at a minimum to drive. So, we bought the Touring. I had been camped out on Prius Chat not bothering anyone for a long, long time. Ultimately I became an owner. So he takes the Prius to work and I read about it in my spare time. I get to drive it in the mornings and I'll be arranging for or doing all the oil changes.
A 1995 Geo Metro. A dependable ride but boy I sure love my Prius' creature comforts and pick up. No comparison.
1998 Subaru Legacy AWD Station Wagon. Very dependable. Surefooted inthe snow. Best MPG 32 at a steady 60 MPH. Took delivery of 2007 package 2 in Classic Silver on 30 Oct 2006. Worst gas mileage better than Legacy's best gas mileage. Prius cost no more than a new Legacy Wagon!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TimBikes @ Feb 2 2006, 11:45 PM) </div> My prius didn't replace anything. Before I bought the Prius, I had a dodge minivan and a honda civic. I still have both of those vehicles. The Honda is the first non-American brand I have owned in many years. Prius is, of course, the second. The Civic has roof-racks for kayaks and will be used almost exclusively for kayak transport. I didn't want to put roof-racks on the Prius. The Dodge will be used for hauling and trailer towing. The Prius is our primary transportation. Cheers, Larry
I replaced my 1989 Delta 88 after 237,583 miles because I didn't want to sink any more money into restoration. (I probably should have cut my losses a long time ago.) I gave it to my neighbor who replaced a hub bearing and he is thrilled with it. The Prius has a lot to live up to.
Our Prius replaces a Dark Green 2002 Land Rover SE7, fully loaded and beautiful - our 7 passenger, take anywhere SUV that gulped gas faster than we could pump it in. Our current monthly payment on the Prius is what we paid in gas for the Rover per month. I am totally happy with the Prius but I miss the huge rear storage, heated leather seats, being higher up from the ground and generally "feeling big on the road". I don't miss the cramped backseat. CHEERS
1989 Nissan Sentra, which I've owned since 1990. It's a great car, but there are a few new technologies that have come along since 1989...
PEUGOT Diesel (60 KMiles) Dodge Challenger (140 KMiles) Nissan Sentra (70 KMiles) Ford Probe (290 KMiles) PRIUS 2003 (70 KMiles)
I replaced my 98 Jetta GLX w/VR6 which fro being a luxury sport sedan sure was short on the luxury! and with a max mpg of about 25 it was a no brainer to upgrade. ended up with a 2007 base model which for some reason had one option and that was wheel locks but it was black and on the lot so i took it.
2002 MR2 Spyder I'm still going through withdrawal, but this is the my second Prius (my wife drives a 2004) and when she was away and didn't take her car I always drove the Prius anyway.
I replaced a 2001 Volvo V70 with 59,000 miles. I love the Prius so far. Was getting 20mpg in Volvo, ~40 in the Prius so far. WOOHOO!!
I replaced a 2001 Toyota Echo coupe with my 2007 Prius-pack #1. The Echo got great mileage, but the Prius gets better and is more comfortable
I threw away a V6 Chevy s10 pick up (I'll never buy another chevy, EVER! ), and have only put 500 miles on my V8, 6 speed manual transmission B) , BMW 540i since I bought my Prius in early November 06. The Prius has 6500 miles already  .
Our 2007 Prius takes the place of a 1989 Honda Civic that we had for 15 years. The main reason for the move was safety! I loved owning an old payed for car, but I love the Prius much more!
My Prius replaced a 1992 Cadillac Seville STS. The Caddy required Premium fuel, got 18-20 m.p.g. , and the oil pump failed at 120,000 miles. The engine was shot, so I sold it to a Cadillac mechanic for $500. My gasoline bill used to be terrible, now I pay more for water/sewer per month than for gasoline.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Homer_Simpson @ Feb 5 2007, 09:15 AM) </div> nice rims!
My new Prius replaces a 1992 Chevy Astrovan which got 18mpg highway, 12mpg city and had 190,000 miles on it (I got it from my parents when they decided to buy huge gas hogging SUVs in 2001). It was pretty ugly...won't miss it one bit.
