What car does your Prius replace?

In my area (North West UK) the average for Unleaded is 102.9 pence per litre ($7.66 per US Gallon) and Diesel is 107.8 pence per litre ($8.03 per US Gallon). As you can see fuel is not cheap and don't for get that around 75% of the pump cost is Fuel Duty (Tax).

The Vectra uses "variable" timed services so the harder you push the car the faster the services come up. The last big service was around £300, but that did include a timing belt as well as filters and oil.

We will see how the Prius does as most of my milage is on Motorways which tend to be stationary most of the time anyway (read M6 & Birmingham).

Here is my story. We took our 2006 Highlander in for an oil change on December 15th. While waiting I saw this sharp vehicle outlide the showroom window. I asked my wife to take a look at it with me. When we saw the mileage sticker on the side window we had to take a spin. Long story short, we paid off the Highlander loan and bought the Prius. Both of us can't wait to drive this car each day as it is so much fun. I like everything about it..I am even looking forward to the next generation of Prius

Been to the Northwest a few times, Got friends in Burnley and Blackpool is a hoot. The M6 isn't so bad during the day but I know what you mean during peak hours.

No timing belt so that's something, really pretty simple servicing so I think you will be a happy camper. Spread the word, the North West needs more Toyotas.

I replaced a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse gs 4-cyl auto.

 

I replaced a 2001 F250 V10 Crew Cab (avg 11 mpg) with a Prius. Actually the Prius is for the wife and I inherited her '03 4 Runner. I'm going to miss that truck but not the gas stops!

 

2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 5spd, Sport Suspension Kit, Sirius Sat Radio installed, 225/45R-18 Yokos on a Mille Miglia, tow package, roof rack w/bike rack with 80K. Cradle to Grave for me was $0.91 / mile.

 

1999 vw beetle tdi. (engine and turbo blown at 300k miles)

 

I replaced a 2005 Toyota Tundra quad cab V8. It was a great truck but love the Prius more. Now gonna have to borrow a friend's truck when I need help moving furniture!

I've just supplemented a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The first car I ever bought myself. 12 years (almost to the day) of ownership and pushing 200,000 miles. And still driving like a dream. I will give the poor old girl a rest now and only use her in the most extreme snows...

 

I am replacing a 1993 Toyota Corolla LE. We got it new, and it has served us very well. Last Trip it got up to 34.5 MPG. Had to change a alternator a few years back, and did the Timing Belt, Other than that just tires, oil changes, for 157,000 miles.

Would have kept it, but felt that as we are close to retirement, we should upgrade while one of us was on full pay. I am expecting nothing less from the 05 Prius.

 

Just picked up 2 Prius Package 2's, replacing 2 Yukon XL's. Old mpg was 14, hoping to average at least 45 mpg so tripling the efficiency. It's not only a smart business decision, it's the right thing to do.

Also bought a Tacoma 4-cyl manual that is supposed to get 25mpg to replace a GM pickup that got 15 mpg. Annual savings around $12,000. with these three trades. Looking forward to replacing more vehicles as dollars permit.

Replaced a 7 month old (2007) BMW 328xi. (And, I would never own a BMW again; at least not in this lifetime. Ownership experience was awful. I do not think there could be a more hideous group of dealerships and manufacturer.)

We own a 2001 Tacoma 4 cyl - My wife drove it to FL in Oct - Average MPG 24 with on Tank getting 29.

 

1998 Subaru Forester, 115K miles, with a bad oil leak, my excuse to get the Prius. I missed the Forester this week though, shoveling 10 inches of snow out of the alley so I coud get the Prius to the street. The Forester would have just powered on through.

 

So your decision to buy a Prius was also good for your winter fitness?

 

2000 Ford Focus

2000 Ford Focus. I only drove it to work and back for a total of five miles but moved to Virginia recently. My commute got just a bit longer (about two hours). I thought about getting in line to buy my Prius about six months from now but I walked into the dealer when they had four in the lot unsold. The salespeople didn't know how to sell the car because they normally sold themselves. I took advantage of their weakness and now have a great car.

My old car was very close to Barcelona Red and that is what my Prius turned out to be. I didn't pick the color - it was available with the right package. The funny thing is my carpool buddies think it looks like the old car from the outside.

 

We replaced our 2005 Toyota Corolla that was totaled when someone decided red lights no longer meant stop.

We would have bought a Prius in 2005 if we could have afforded it, but we couldn't then.

We could now because we worked so hard to pay off our other car.

It is our reward for paying it down and Toyota's reward for making a car that could take a F-250 to the side and allow its passengers to remain relatively unscathed.
