What are your thoughts on the Gen. 4 Prius?

It's a bit funny how they feel obligated to migrate the design in that direction. Would love to be a fly on the wall, with a babble fish attached.

Over here, the Civic is considered a performance road car and indeed a significant number sold are Civic R hot hatch performance types and incidentally, the R looks very similar to the standard model, you can see where I am going.

Q: Does gen 4 Prius have electric parking brake with automatic brake hold? (So, don't have to keep foot on pedal when stopped)

A: No (correct if wrong, but I still see mechanical parking brake)

Strange they didn't think to include this. Not going to tell which car that starts at $4,800 less has above feature.

A: No. Have to get at least Three, but build your own doesn't show how much. Probably near $28k sticker Three w TSS P. Ouch!

I don't think anyone is making an argument that modding a Prius will turn it into a performance car. Just because it's slow doesn't mean it can't look good .

If you're referring to MPG as the best of what a Prius has to offer, a Gen3 Prius with the larger 17" wheels can still get 40+ MPG, so what's the problem?

 

I sat in a Gen 4 at a dealer in the East Bay the other day. They had quite a few on the lot.

I absolutely hated the glossy black and white plastic used in the interior. Didn't bother to ask to drive one because I'm not in the market yet but the interior would be at least one reason why I wouldn't buy it.

I've owned 2 Priuses in the past -- a Gen 2 and a Gen 3 -- but because of the interior I'm going to take another look at the Volt and, if it comes around soon enough, the iconiq before buying another hybrid.

 

I'm sure aftermarket producers will have replacements for those white/black glossy plastic bits sooner rather than later. I can't image they will be super expensive either.

As for Hyundai, we currently have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited and a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. We like them...however, I am a little less excited about Hyundai these days due to the recent Sonata engine defect recall where they may have to replace my engine! I'm also very skeptical that the Hyundai Ioniq will come close to the 2016 Prius in the 'real world'. However, I'd bet that Hyundai will market the Ioniq as good 'value proposition' by having the 10 year warranty plus a lifetime warranty on the battery - just like they do for the Sonata hybrid.

Also, I really do like the interior design of the 2016 volt...However, I'm not sold on the volt's interior room...the back seat seems quite cramped.

 

I'm reading a lot about improved seat comfort, to me that's really good news, but I 'm afraid Toyota missed a window of opportunity by not having the car ready a year earlier when gas prices were high......

 

The seasonal increase in gas prices should start soon . . . if past is prolog.

Hey there folks! I just stopped by my local toyota dealership (team toyota of glen mills pa) and tada..

We have a Gen4 (two trim) on the east coast!! They said it's the only one they are getting till closer to the end of February, and it's gonna be a demo.

I took some pics of the Blue crush metallic since I haven't seen many posted on here and then took it for a test drive. I was very impressed






So if anyone's local, come test drive it!

 

IMO, the dark color seems to mute the styling edges of the car.

I would probably go for the Blizzard pearl or metallic grey..

 

We went by the local dealership in Salem and they had several gen 4s in stock. I drove a 3 and liked it very much (very short drive at low speed). It was blizzard pearl and the color suits the shape. I saw it in the gray and expected to like it more than I did. I didn't like the white accents. That was a mistake for our market. Some will like it others won't. I think Toyota will get rid of them eventually. My wife liked the car and was pleased with the visibility and roominess. She is petite and has a hard time feeling comfortable while driving most cars, but there was plenty of seat adjustment for her to be Happy with the Prius.

I saw a hypersonic red car that was just off the truck. WOW what a beautiful color! The car looked great.

I am holding out for the pip2. I hope that the styling changes (if there are any) don't ruin the design. Some of the leaked concept images look a bit dubious to me. Time will tell.

I am referring to the pictures that came from an Asian forum well before the Las Vegas reveal that were of the gen4 and the plug in. The gen4 images turned out to be rather close to what became reality. The plug in images showed the headlight treatment being more conservative than the gen4 and it had large scoops on both sides below the headlights that were much more aggressive and to me unappealing. It kind of looked like the Murai. Obviously nothing is known until the plug in appears, but it gives me pause. I hope what I like in the gen4 isn't lost.
