I see the prototypes prowling the streets around here almost every day. 5 years or less.

it matters not. hybrid sales will linger until gas prices spike. fact of life. doesn't make them good or bad, same as any quite, drive what you want.

Those 2016 Prius pictures were taken form a long distance, so some "zoom" lens distortion was apparent. I'll wait until the car is out in the "flesh" to see how these new proportions and metal creases look close up. I've always liked aero shaped cars as opposed to the old chiseled brick models of the not so distant past. We will probably keep our 2011, now with 62K for a couple of more years at least. Holding up beautifully, inside and out, no mechanical problems, and still getting 52-54 mpg, even with Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season 205/50 17 on Persona wheels.

We have used this car for commuting on rural roads, extensive cross country travel via interstates at crazy speeds and everything in between. Hatch configuration has made it a useful load carrier. Hope that the 2016 can live up to this car.

Looks like Prius will have another direct competitor by 2017 from Hyundai. Honda failed to make much of a dent in Prius with its 2nd Gen Insight. Should be interesting to see what Hyundai comes up with.

Elantra is considered one of the best values over at CleanMPG.com.
Which may not convert to someone that doesn't drive for efficiency.
