What are you paying for your manufacturer 5,000 mile service? I paid.....

I change my own oil and spent $6.27 a quart for Mobile one 0W20 times 4.5, which comes to $30.15. The filter was a free gift from the salesman. He gave my four filters. It was an easy change once I figured out how to get those plastic fasteners out. Changing the filter was a piece of cake.

 

that is a bit high and i have a coupon for $79.99. but i just had oil changed on 2006 which was $46. the oil change on 2010 is $75 so the coupon is a good deal. guessing regular price is about the same as your price

 

All Prius' sold in Norway comes with free service for three years (or 50 000 km (~31 000 miles)) - whatever you reach first). The warranty and maintenance card is stamped to show authorized garages to bill Toyota and not me. So I will pay nothing.

I would love to pay that price for service. $100 is less that a garage charges for one hour of work here...

 

I still have like 4,900 miles to go before I have to think too much about this matter. My dealership has given me ONE free oil change, so I guess it won't cost me anything for my 5,000 oil change...unless they charge for the other services at that time and the "free oil change" is just a lure to get me in for overpriced fees for other services performed at that time?

But, for $110 you can get the oil changed and a lot more from Luscious Garage- here's their page that has their rates...and it seems they also offer some special "Bob Dylan" oil change too...

Last week I went to a new owner's clinic at Round Rock Toyota and asked about the price of standard maintenance.

Their standard price is $34.95 for an oil change and doing a full checklist of standard system checks. There is an additional charge of around $20 for 0W20 oil. Tire rotation is also about $20. So, I expect my first 5K maintenance to cost around $75.

 

My dealer, Hurlburt wants $140 per oitl change. Yes it includes rotation but that is a crazy price given that we drive over 1,000 a week

 

I just called five Toyota dealers in my area to find out what they are charging for the 5000 mile Prius service. I was quoted prices ranging from $89.95 to $129.95 plus tax.
In each case I asked if that price included 0W-20 oil. Two of the service departments didn't know that the synthetic oil was recommended and then had to up the price for the service.
Perhaps the people who answered the phones in the service departments weren't technicians, but I suspect that they were reading from a script or computer and those sources were specifying the incorrect oil.

its interesting they charge you to dispose of used oil. around here, companies get paid to recycle it. most will take uncontaminated used oil for free even if you dont have your oil changed with them

 

Question a little bit off-topic but not so much (I guess it is OK since it is not about the Prius NAV):

Do any of you have Honda(s) and how does the oil change cost compare with the Prius?

Even if I disregard the extra $15-20 paid for the synthetic oil cost in the Prius, the oil/filter/tire rotation and others inspections that go along with it cost less than half in my Honda Odyssey compared to my Prius, both done at the dealer. In fact, when I had my Honda CR-V, the cost for that service for both my CR-V and Odyssey combined was less than the cost of the same service in my Prius alone even after disregarding the extra charge for the synthetic oil.

My question is:

Is Honda maintenance a lot cheaper, or is my Honda dealer just too generous, or is Prius maintenance more expensive than other Toyotas?

 

My last two vehicles were a Civic and and Odyssey. Oil changes were around 30 bucks and they always sent out a coupon for discounts. Can't speak to the rates for Toyota... yet!

 

i think you will find that new car maintenance done at ANY dealership is not cheap. i will say i know a girl who had a Jetta and got free maintenance for a year due to the high cost.

now she is paying a LOT. now she is a girl so cant say what all she is paying for or if its necessary. she provides little detail other than cost. but she has been to dealer like 3 times this year, each trip was over $150 and no repair issues that i am aware of.

now this car is getting old so that might be a part of it. she got hers right after i got my 04 and we have been pretty much battling over which car is better ever since. now she had some major electrical stuff going for a while but all that has been resolved. but she paid slightly more than i did and gets a good 10 mpg less than i do... so, hehehe...ya well

I was paying $28 for the oil/filter change (plus all the other inspections) in my previous CR-V and paying $32 for the same service in my Odyssey (both done at the dealer). So 28 + 32 = $60, but like you said, they always gave me coupons and the final price for the service in both was more like on the 50ish.

In my Prius, the cheapest oil/filter change I could find in local dealers from 2 cities I live was $78.

So, I think either Toyota maintenance is way more expensive then Honda or Prius maintenance is way more expensive than Hondas. That’s what I’m trying to find out here.

 

I have a 2007 Honda Civic EX and my local Honda dealer charges $53.90 for an oil/filter change and tire rotation. They frequently send 10% off discount coupons through both the mail and online for these services.
I called the Toyota dealership where I had bought my Prius and they quoted a price of $59.95 for the 5000 mile service. If I want synthetic oil they will charge another $8.00/quart or an additional $36.00.
I receive a lot of advertising from my Toyota dealer about using their service department, but no discount coupons are included.

 

$67.95 for just a oil /filter service (OW-20), overall check up including other fluids and tire air pressure check. $149 for the complete 5,000 m service. DARCARS Toyota- Frederick, Md.

 

$28.80 excluding oil (I brought my own) at my selling dealer for oil and filter change, no tire rotation.

$51.64 including oil from another dealer, while traveling, same service. This was the first 2010 for the service writer, and the total ended up more than what she quoted me over the phone, but less than her guess on the pre-service slip I signed. The invoice shows the right weight oil, but charged only $5.33/quart, so they also haven't figured out what to charge for it.

The oil change appears to have been done correctly. But I'd pay extra to not have several other errors. They cleared all the trip meters, and added a giant wad of oily chewing gum to the carpeted floor mat. They also claimed my tire pressure was 'dangerously high' then let too much air out (39-40 psi hot, 35-36 psi cold the next morning, 32-33 psi cold after descending to sea level). If Toyota and my selling dealer are comfortable delivering with 40 psi, cold and at sea level, then this dealer's 40 psi max at highway operating temperature and 6000+ feet of elevation is insufficient.

 

Just had the 5000 mile service done - $105. Part of the cost of owning a hybrid. I'm sure I've saved on the cost of fuel to make up for this.

 

Now, keep in mind - she is a girl - so I'm sure she doesn't know...

You should be helping her to learn stuff about cars.
