They can be had for less than £4k over here, or about $5,300.

Turns out their battery pack is proving very reliable and long lasting. Early 2009 models are still holding their value considering their age.

    Ideal 2nd or city car.

I think $8k is too much for the price when you could get a 2011/2012 Leaf with the battery replaced for about the same price (and it has more range and is bigger).

I'd consider $5300 for an imiev. For $8000, I'd expect a Leaf. BTW, what the heck is going on! 4000 GBP is only 5300 USD? What am I doing at home? I should be traveling with the whole world at a 20% discount. :sneaky:

Here ya go. 38k miles 2011 Nissan Leaf SL for $9500, already down to 8 bars so qualifies for a brand new lizard battery (same one that goes in the 2015 model and 2016 S trim) (unless it was one of the very few excluded from Nissan's lawsuit).

    Down to 8 bars? What???

    That's madness.

Mine is 4.5 years old and still on the full 12 bars, though the cold weather is starting to hit the capacity a bit. I fear I might lose my first bar soon. But I knew the risks when I bought a gen1 Leaf.

The 2011-2012 Leaf has been notorious for the battery degrading rapidly in places of high (or even moderate) heat. Another I saw on Craigslist was down to 7 bars, but at 70k miles idea passed the warranty coverage, so likely no one will ever buy that car.
(For those of you who don't know, the Leaf has a battery capacity bar which shows 12 bars when the battery is new, and less as the usable capacity degrades over time, 8 bars or less qualifies for a free brand new battery if less than 5 years 60k miles worth $6500 out of warranty).

At least Nissan is straight forward with it via the honesty in the bars. If it were Volkswagen they would just show 12 bars still even though the battery had significantly degraded.
