Warranty on traction battery, difference between Toyota and Honda

    i remember that one too, under warranty.

    i do the same, and i've always wished there were three trip meters, and three ev/hv ratio's.
    i'm not sure prime got a third either.

    With 40k and you lose 3 out of 15 miles, which is close to 20%, that is a little scary and sounds too high for me. I would expect it is 10% for 40k and gradually increase to 20% after 120k.

    but it may not keep decreasing. maybe you should consider clarity, i heard they have no degradation, plus, you're starting with 47+ miles.

    ALL Li-Ion batteries have Degradation. It's the nature of the Electro-Chemical beast. And they have a shelf life.

    Some PHEV's can conceal it for a long time because of the battery buffer (top and bottom) built into the EV usage.
    BEV's have no where to hide it.....:(

    It is possible. Look at the Tesla Model S 40KWh version. It has a 60KWh pack, but software limited to only use a smaller amount unless you pay the whatever fee ($5k?). It is possible to do that sort of thing with a BEV. Put more than you advertise up front, let it degrade over time to still be within advertised specs during warranty, then degrade out of spec after warranty.

    Tesla sold a car with an actual 60kWh pack. And held 20kWh of it for Ransom.
    So with that BEV you may be waiting a long time for any Degradation to be measurable....
    You got a Degradation Buffer at no extra cost! :) Except for the fact that you are hauling around the weight of a 60kWh pack....:(

    Toyota just helped with the cost of a battery replacement on my Gen3. It has 128,000 miles and is a 2010. They knocked the price down to warranty rates and then covered 1,500 of that. My portion was 1,734$ The rep was aware it was my 4th prius and said the customer service manager gave our family a glowing referral. I replaced the battery for the sale of the vehicle. I have already bought a Prime premium (our fifth prius) They also replaced the screen at 116,000 on my '04. Toyota stands behind their product long after the warranty expires in my experience. edited

    Talking about capacity loss in another thread, I came back to this spot. The linked Adobe document here, relating specifically to the standard Prius warranty, unlike the prime or pip, are silent. One can't assume that because this document fails to spell out that capacity loss is not part of the traction pack warranty that this inferes there IS a capacity loss warranty.
    Fortunately, because the Prius uses such a small percentage of its capacity, degradation doesn't become an issue.
