Same here. My wife cried out a few days after we bought the car because i closed the door and the hatch was open. I told her I checked already. Everything fit.

Your garage looks really dark and low. Around here garages are usually 14ft+ ceilings. In our newest house the garage has 22ft ceilings. The tracks for the door are just above the door line, but the openers are usually ceiling mounted as is all the hardware that moves.

My garage door has the same issue and was or will hit my trunk. I end up have to unscrew and point my garage rail up a little in order to clear my trunk.

Ouch! Sorry to learn that! I've almost done that very thing a number of times, but fortunately realised just in time!

This is where our m.o.'s differ. My house has no garage door remote inside the living space where we can blindly move the door without seeing what obstructions are there. We must step into the garage where we can see that big door, in order to reach its operating button.

Tough hatch, to be able to rip through the garage door like that.

i've seen took many garage door springs pop, with resulting shrapnel, to open the doors while inside the garage.

Every single garage door spring I've ever seen pop did so while stationary.

i've never seen one pop when stationary. it's always when the tension is released.

Weird. I've probably had 10 of them pop in my lifetime, some while I was asleep (that'll get your attention), some while I was in the house, some while others were in the house, all while the door was closed, all while it was just sitting there.

That does seem to wreck steel. My 28 year old car hasn't got a spot of rust on it.

Are you talking about the torsion springs on garage door opener mechanism? I tried tensioning one once, then started realizing the potential danger, got a pro.

Yes - the torsion springs. I had one break a few months ago. Sounded like someone tossed a grenade into my garage.

i wouldn't call them torsion springs. ours just stretch out along the rails as the door close. there is a torsion design on the header over the door, where the spring is wound up, but no one uses them around here for some reason.
